Matt-

I believe the Protomotive kit Eric is getting is built to order, and the photo is his kit being fitted on a bench motor so its all good to go when it arrives to Eric. This install does not require motor removal.

AC is right, this is the Stage I bolt-on kit. That's just a bench motor; I shouldn't have to drop my motor. So it's good for something like 380-410hp depending.

If I ever need to get into the motor, then I'll lower the compression & upgrade rod bolts and be good for 470 - 500 hp with this kit.

Eric,
Congrats on your decision! Did they supply any further pics that would serve to keep us entertained?

From the pic, it seems as if the entire right bank of the engine is blocked by the turbo plumbing. If so, does a plug change require its removal?

Andreas, yeah, I have a ton of pics. I don't think a plug change will be that much worse, since the stuff does actually sit away from the engine. But I have to admit, I'm really worried about how all this stuff is going to fit when he didn't install it in an actual car. Soooo much that can go wrong.

Beautiful! Is it too late to have the piping finished in Speed Yellow?

This install may be a good excuse to remove the SAI pump and sling it in the trash.

Are the air filters in their final position as shown in the pic? I presume that either puts them over the rear stuts or in the back seats....

Any more.....

Eric, thanks for putting this analysis together and sharing your progress. I'm very interested in this upgrade as well as your impressions on the kit before, during and after the installation. Congratulations! I'm sure it's going to be blast.

Cheers,

Shane

Indeed, I'm worried about that too. The pass-side filter looks correct; same place as stock. But the driver's side look waaaay off. We'll see.

It came in under the prices I posted in post #1. But I believe he just recently raised his prices a bit. I don't let the high-mileage issue concern me. If the engine is strong, then go for it. If the engine is not strong, then go for it anyway, then rebuild the engine soon and upgrade while you're in there!! It's not like 993 engines self-destruct at 120k miles or something. I'll be posting more pics once it arrives.

Eric,
With those open wastegates that turbo conversion will make a great noise on boost. Maybe Protomotive would give you a number of references for customers who have high-compression conversions that have accrued substantial mileage.

This is a great thread. I've been pondering the sell-buy TT path to turbos but this looks like it would save me $30k or so.

Eric,

You'll be fine with Todd and Protomotive.

Todd is genuine and will stand behind his work. This I know.

Just wondering here, how come that the cars in the US are cheap but
exchange engines seems expensive?!

"$22k for engine" and $29k for the car?!
The price for the engine is about the same as in europe but the car
is almost ½ it´s european value.

Exchange engines come from Europe, hence the high price.
