Default Hola from Ecuador

Hola mi amigos y amigas,
On vacation in Ecuador for ten days and I needed to let you know that there are NO PORSCHES in the capital city of Quito or surrounding area! I spotted one Cayenne S the first day (Porsche lineage questionable....) but otherwise nothing.

I understand that VW Beetles were built in Mexico until recently and it´s interesting to see very new looking Beetles driving around.

You might have more luck in Guayaquil. It's hard to find Porsches (other than Cayennes maybe) all over Latin America. Main reason: roads suck. Other reasons: crime, hard to find good mechanics and, of course, very expensive.

Spent some time talking to locals last night and they tell me many wealthy people have two or three cars, so they use a small old car every day so it doesn´t get stolen and they don´t get robbed on the street. It sounds bad but in some parts of Quito you could spit standing next to one policeman and hit the next policeman. But I wouldn´t try that. Lots of private security on the steets too.

I am from Argentina and I can tell you that we have Porsche cars here, but only in small amounts (They sold 170 new Porsches in 2007, more than half of them Cayennes)
Here everything is much more difficult than in first world countries, roads are worser, security is worse, and cars and maintenance is far more expensive.
As an example I paid 42000 U$S for my 1993 964 C2 and a nice 993 demands 70-75.000 U$S here (Importing used cars is forbidden)

Still we love Porsches as much as you do and try to drive them as much as possible
