.. So what is the minimum mileage we should put on our cars!?

I don't think this will be a problem for me, if the Sun is out (live in Washington State) I drive it. Picked it up 2 months ago with 37k, & now I'm pushing 41k, I just can't stop driving it!
The sad part, it's the slowest car I own, but dam is it FUN!

Hopefully bubble boy's garage doesn't show up in this thread! Adrienne that is some driving and I liked your full page spread in the Essential Companion.

Funny how when the late '60's/early '70's cars were 10 years old (when I was looking for my first), you'd NEVER find one that hadn't already, or nearly, flipped the odo once. The question was if it had gone around twice! And they were all pretty good cars, here in California anyway. And they almost all had engine work done. Yeah, those pesky chain tensioners that caused oh so many engines to be torn into with low mileage.

I've been trying to drive mine but with a 6 mile round trip commute to the office each day, it's hardly worth pulling it out of the driveway.
Then, I've got to ask myself why did I buy this car in the first place?
I hope to do some weekend road trips this spring and summer.

If you have traffic, can't the 6mi take an hour?

I spent a couple hundred hours buying my 993 and it seemed that most of the 993s out there kind of fell into 2 buckets...
3K-ish or 7K-sh miles per year....
and then there are those on Willhoit's site with like 1K per year!!!! (and selling at damn close to 1996 retail!)

Do what I did....find a longer way to work. Even if it means driving right by the office at least once!

10k a year, lot of bangkok traffic. Friends asking me about stonechip worries and I just say that's what resprays are for. Better to rebuild it every now and then and have fun with it. What if you die of a heart attack tomorrow?
Be safe....

This is a wonderful site and resource, the responses are generally extremely helpful - even if the odd one seems a bit short.
Nice to hear from another Irish Iris - is yours a C2?
Cheers

Thanks very much receiver , I'm lucky in that my place of work is about 15 miles from the house , and the journey involves some motorway speeds and some quiet backroads , so the car always gets up to temp. I don't think I've done a journey yet where the oil cooler hasn't been in use.
.. And from the advice I'm getting here , that's the way it should be .. Thanks y'all.

Mine has done 8K miles in the last 8 years, - does not seem to suffer at all, no issues to report, apart from me not having enough time to enjoy the car..., try to make a point of moving it at least twice a month..

Porsches are tanks. They are quite reliable (at least up until the 996s, but that is another conversation)

I love Ireland and have lots of family in the Cork area. In fact I almost bought a house in Schull in 1999. I still regret not buying it.
