Wow! A surprise visit to the Ingram Collection.
 

I was in Raliegh for business on Monday and Tuesday and my company held a dinner function at the Ingram Collection. For those of you that are not in the Carolina area...the Ingram Collection is one of the most admired collection of Porsches in the USA. The owner, Bob Ingram, has put together an unbelievable collection of Porsches from 356As,Bs,Cs all the way up to a 2005 Carrera GT and a 2007 GT RS and everything in between. Truley an unbelievable experience especially since I had no clue the function was planned. It was kind of a special night out in appreciation for all our hard work in 2007.
Bob chatted with everyone all thru the night and was great host. His passion for these automobiles is evident. He showed me his 356A GS-GT that Jerry Seinfeld has been begging him to purchase. Car looks as new as the first day it rolled off the line.
Other notable cars. 1997 Turbo S, 1994 Turbo Special non metallic grey paint (1 of 1), 3 912s, at least 5 356s. 996 GTS (only street legal version in the US) Probably about 30 cars with about 10 or 12 missing last night.
Beautiful black 1959 beauty that had original everything including very rare special order ODM knock off wheels valued at over $100k. 2 Vintage Speedster as well as 2 from the 90s.
My personal highlight was when he was addressing a group of people and he mentioned that the 993 is his favorite of the latter day Porsches. He said that was the perfect blend of performance, looks and "spirit" of what Porsche set out to do from the beginning.
Just a memorable night for me.
Sorry no pictures permitted in the museum/warehouse. Even a security monitor making sure you are not taking picture with you cell phone.

It's indeed an amazing collection. My parents' neighbor is a personal friend of Bob Ingram and has vowed to get me in there in the near future.

I assume he'll have a role in the upcoming Parade in Charlotte.

Bob Ingram was kind enough to give me my first car show award in 2004 at the Midamerica Funfest for Porsche. He is a truely genuine guy - He was the only judge to pose with his recipient during the photo shoot!

Caught a glimpse today
 

I just saw a small piece of the collection today. I was pulling in next to where the collection is housed (I had no idea that that was what was in that nondescript building) when I saw a gorgeous blue '65 911 coupe pulling out and onto a transporter. The garage door was quickly shut, but before it was, I glimpsed a number of lovely early 911 profiles peaking out of the gloom. I swung back by about 20 minutes later, just in time to see a silver '72 911 being loaded. Thought they obviously were loading more, it was just as apparent that they wouldn't do so with rubberneckers around, and since I was in a signal yellow pickup (it's raining today, so my 911 is in the garage), it was difficult to remain inconspicuous. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the collection, including a 1949 Gmünd coupe, at the upcoming Porsche Exhibit this Fall at the NC Museum of Art http://www.sportscardigest.com/porsc...rolina-museum/

Bob is an amazing, very approachable individual with the innate ability to remember just about everyone he's ever met. If I were to describe the epitomy of a "Porschefile", it would be Bob Ingram. He was the Grand Marshall of the inaugural Pinehurst Concours this year. Here's a pic of his 904 GTS (drool!)

They are charging $750 a head for a reception and visit with Mark Webber Monday Sept 15 on his way to Austin for the WEC race there. I live in Raleigh, I have never been there.

I don't know how I'll find out what comprises the fee and whose idea it is.

If it is Webber, he's just lost a fan (and I've been one of his stauchest fans since I met him driving the CLK-LM at the Homestead FIA-GT in 1998).

If it is Ingram, I'll never go visit the collection and never give them one red cent.

This is an invitation-only PCA event, so I understand there should be some sort of reasonable fee, like maybe between $75 and $125 or so, but $750 ? that is truly insane, and whoever's idea that fee is, has (not that it matters) lost a fan and supporter.

American capitalism at it's finest.

Sorry to hear this, but I doubt these billionaires care if they piss you off or not, or if they lose an ardent fan.

They got theirs. And at $750 a pop, looks like they want some more.

I know nothing about the event but suggest waiting to get all the facts before dissing Bob Ingram. Rest assured, he doesn't need the money.

Went to the Ingram collection with my wife last year. Stupendous.

His Son Cam Ingram does a lot of the restoration and is a passionate Porsche guy.

Very cool. Does he drive his cars?
