Does your fire extinguisher rattle? Easy fix.
I finally got around to mounting a 2.5 lb Amerex Halotron fire extinguisher. As with most extinguishers, this one has a pull pin that is loosely restrained by a flimsy gray plastic tie. The pull pin is further restrained by a Mickey Mouse plastic lanyard. While these solutions are meant to prevent the pin from easily coming out, they do nothing to silence the loose fit of the pin. In-car rattles and I are not friends. In any way.
So I canned the flimsy plastic bits and simply pulled a nice o-ring through the split ring of the pull pin and then snugged it around to capture the other end of the pin. Works like a charm. The pin does not rattle, is held snug, and releases with a gentle tug. As soon as you pull the pin and stretch the o-ring, it pops free of the other end and allows the pin to come free.
