Hi
I have a 993 and have just purchased a second hand PORSCHE battery trickle charger the black box type. The end fitment is for a ciarette lighter and I have just noticed the lighter does not work when the ignition is turned off. Don't want to cut off and attach it to the battery. silly question but it wont work if I plug it in as is will it? Does it mean messing with the dash to get the lighter a permanant electrical feed? Want to avoid digging around the dash

It should work (if its not broke.. the charger that is)
Plug the cig. adapter in, and then plug the charger to a power outlet. You should see display lights on your charger once you have it in the proper mode.

Hold your horses...no cutting, no digging!

Push the plug in the socket (I know, crappy fit), then plug into 110V AC. I take a turn or two of wire around the shifter as strain relief, then fish it out of a cracked window. A red light confirms connection and charging. When the light goes out, your battery is supposed to be fully charged...

+1 on crappy fit. Also, you can simply feed it out of the door sill- it won't hurt a thing, I promise.

I added an in-line mini-switch about 1/2 foot from the 12v plug end so the wall wart stays plugged in all the time while I turn it on/off from inside the car. When I get in the car, I turn it off, pull it and set it off to the side of the car. When I get back home, I pick up the 12v plug end while still in the car, plug it in and turn it on. No muss, no fuss.
