CD changer in...still need Becker keys....and, uh, a lawyer
 

OK so almost a year ago RL'er Mad Markie sold me a CDC-3 changer for a very friendly price. I don't know the guy but he's a RL'er so I sent him a check and he sent me the changer, no muss, no fuss.

I read the TSB posted by Geolab, got all bummed out about the holes required, and it sat blocking my desk drawer for eight months.

Well now it's winter, cold and gloomy outside, and the damn thing's still in the way so I went to Sears and bought a 20mm bi-metal hole saw and had at it.

I didn't have the Becker radio removal keys but my friendly Kragen lent me a big "radio removal kit" that had the correct keys. The CR-210 slid out like it was on casters.

(If anyone has a spare set of Becker keys PM me cuz I'm in the market.)

Bottom line: a very easy installation, easier if you have a nutsert/rivnut tool and easier still if you ignore the TSB and use sheet metal screws. If you want to do it right but don't want to buy the $100 plus rivnut tool read this first:

(If you try to use just a bolt, nut and washer to set it the result WILL look like the next to last pic on that thread.)

I saw no need to disconnect the battery, didn't, and thus didn't need to reset the radio codes. Changer plugs right in; hides neatly in the trunk; and the big scary hole is really not an issue if cut and primed properly.

So y'day I'm blasting home, listening to U2's Achtung Baby, had just slalomed around some slow traffic blocking the fast lane, when I see single headlight whipping up the carpool lane at VERY good speed, 100 plus. I immediately backed out of the throttle but at any safe freeway speed this has very little effect if you are in 6th gear.

A reasonably nice motor cop gave me a reasonably ****ty ticket--first one I've had in four years of booting hell out of the Black Bullet. :banghead:

When I got home my wife was very sympathetic, blaming the U2.

"U2 should have stayed in the 80s," she said.

"But dear," I responded, "according to this ticket, it was in the 80s!"

Yes, the right song will make you hit warp speed. I was checking out a mix once in the car and before I knew it, there were triple digits on the speedo.

LOL... Funny story, and better yet funny quote! The CHP.. you love em.. or you hate em... I once talked down 130+ ticket on i10 down to 80, just by knowing a few of the chipies..

Got lucky on that one.. I could of sworn I was going to jail :) But that was back when my p-car wasn't even built yet :(
