Default OH CRAP !

I've had a choppy drivers door latch for a while, and it's on my list of things to fix.

However, opening the door this morning I saw a flake of unidentified origin lying on the mat. I picked it up, and it looked like a piece of broken off welding. It was painted the same colour as the car, so a mild panic set in...

To my dismay I found that it came from the part of the car where the offending latch is attached to the little pinned hinge. Apparently there was a problem with it, and someone had botch welded the receiver in place. They didn't fix the latch, and the welding has now broken. Luckily for me, the welder was incompetent, and apart from some minor surface rust the frame is unscathed.

Question...is the rear of the frame (where the receiver is supposed to be spot welded) accessible or do I need to take the car apart ?

Thanks,

Peter 'thoroughly p*ss*d off' R.

If it is like my early 911, you would have to take the fender off and you would see an enclosed door post. You then have to cut a hole in the front side (side facing the front of the car) of the door post to access the bracket. Once repaired, patch up the hole and reinstall the fender. Or you can weld the bracket to the door post from the door side. There are some other posts here, you can search for them. I think they are un der "door check repair".

You might be talking about the Door Check. Pretty common issue if that's what it is. I've got it on my passenger door and been looking in to getting it fixed. If you do a search on Door Check there are some threads dealing with it.

I bought new straps from Pelican and replaced left and right sides. Nice and new feel. Not too expensive either.
