Rearended the 993
So I rearended somebody in the 993 today. The damage is not bad at all so we are not going to go through insurance. My bumper shock took the brute of the force, just a couple scratches and a little divot on the front bumper. The Body shop quoted me $2,040! The most of it is to recondition my current bumper and the guy showed me from his book that they charge $1,100 to recondition a 993 front bumper. That does not sound right, its a f***ing scratch for god sake. Any suggestions?
pics to come in a couple hours.

If you really want to do this on a budget, just remove the bumper yourself, take it to a body shop, have them respray it, and reattach it yourself. The whole thing'll cost you a few hundred bucks. And you won't have some guys who are high on paint fumes working on your car and taking it out for joyrides. That, IMHO, is the main reason for this strategy.

germanimportedparts.com has GREAT prices on bumpers. I know there prices were a few hundred less than other places I looked. I will be replacing my rear bumper cover because I have a crack in it (who knows how it happened) but rather than have it fixed, Im replacing it at some point and will have the front resprayed at the same time.
Pelican and Sunset carries them as well.

The paint is chipping off in big pieces on my Euro Turbo bumper and my friend said it was because the flex agent was not used in the paint and it was just sprayed normally. He said it would cost big $$$ to have it done. Any thoughts?

Here is all the damage. Does that look like $2,140.35?
recond front bumper $1,159
new front bumper shock $177.60
6.2 hours of body labor @$65.00 $403
2.8 hours paint labor @65.00 $182
2.8 hours paint supplies @32.00 $89.60
I am not so mad because I was already thinking euro turbo bumper before this, but really just having the bumperettes filled in was what I was going to end up doing. So where are the good leads for euro turbo front bumper, and what value does my bumper have?
I have only had the car on the road for 2 months now. The ironic thing was how yesterday I said I am probably going to crash my car soon because things don't go good for me for this long of a stretch of time... talk about a self fufliiling prophecy.

Disclaimer: I am no pro but it is becoming a hobby for me. Here is my understanding of the flex agents mixed in to shoot urethane parts:
The flex agent off-gasses (goes away) in a relatively short period of time. It is only there to assist in reassembly so there is no cracking while installing the fresh bumper cover.
I'd guess if there is paint chipping off there is an adhesion issue caused by a prep mistake of some sort.
Shouldn't be but a few hundred to have it redone. I'd remove it myself and bring it in to a good shop and avoid leaving the car there. Only trouble with that plan is the color match but if you can get them to mix the paint to match the existing cover, spray a test piece, then prep the bumper and shoot it.... that would work.
Can you tell I was scarred for life by a bad bodyshop experience
Wow long_beach, that is some crazy high pricing but I guess it adds up... the only thing that seems high is the 6 hours of "body labor". Does the bumper really need to be replaced? Doesn't look bad in the pics. Or does that mean they are going to "recondition" YOUR bumper? If yes, no way. As others have said you can get new for less than that.

yea that is to "recondition" my bumper, or exchange mine for a reconditioned one, either way its a royal screw job. I am going to call a couple people I know tomorrow to see what I can do for a euro turbo bumper. I have had the euro clears laying around for over a year now so one way or the other they are going on. Also, in thinking about just fixing my bumper, my lower front vent/quarter thingies on the right and left are beginning to bend a little so they don't look all that great to reuse...
