i purchased the paint kit from classic motoring:
1 [WF-KIT] Wheel Finishing Kit @ $24.95 each = $24.95

total was $34 with shipping

the marine filler is from "west marine products"

Outstanding! Now if I could find a source for replacement nuts and bolts for my 993 Targa wheels this seems like a good winter project.

process takes about 7 hours mainly the time needed for the epoxy/paint to dry..actual sanding/ prep and spraying only takes about 1 hour tops.

i use the heat lamps to hurry the drying time...epoxy dries with heat

if you do not use heat the normal drying time for the epoxy filler is 24 hours at 68 degrees.

Default Cup Wheel Refinishing

Based on the great feedback, I guess I will give refinishing them a go. I called a local wheel re-finisher and was quoted $125.00 per wheel. Ouch! My wheels are not gouged, the paint is just chipped. I will start gathering the materials and give it try on the weekend. I will completely refinish all four wheels, taking an entire weekend to let everything dry well. Thanks again for all the great ideas. I will post some photos and the results in a few weeks. Happy Holidays!

I see that classic motoring is offering 10% off at checkout if you are buying the WF-KIT....

Thats the link I get when googling classic motoring and WF-KIT... no affiliation.

i wanted to mention to anyone painting during the cold season to make sure you have a warm enviornment to do the spray painting of the wheels.

if temperature is too cold the silver metallic and clearcoat will cloud or fog after applied and will not spread properly leaving a cloudy/whiteish type finish...

Thank you for sharing this excellent write-up. One quick question though: do you not need to use a primer?

Very nice.
I gauged 2 of my wheels going through the McHenry Tunnel north of Baltimore. Sheared off my valve stem caps also. Guess I was a bit close to the curb.

This thread inspired me. So the other day, i ordered the paint and clear from Classic Motoring...Hey they're in Tampa!!!, So I went and picked it up..
I did the wheels today, and couldn't be happier. All 4 of mine were trashed, in different ways. I didn't take any "before" photos, but I'll get some "afters" up soon. All I can say is; this is really an easy DIY. I have absolutely no experience with this sort of thing, and my wheels look great. I'm going to start shopping for trashed 18"s on fleabay...

Groovzilla - When you did this, I see that you just fixed the problem areas.

I can see that you masked the tyre with painters tape.

- Did you also shield or mask the spokes / inner edge of the rim ?
- When you sprayed the clear coat, I am guessing you spray up to the edge of the silver and then over a little. Can you clarify your approach?

I have similar rash to that which you had, and am going to attempt the same DIY.

Thanks & great write up!

Phil
