Default great CEL SAI story

as i posted last week, my friend jim who just purchsed his 1997 targa w/101K miles had the CEL (SAI) light come on during his drive home from texas to seattle.

having to do emissions prior to registering the car this was an obvious concern

thanks to everyone for their suggestions...jim spoke to the owner and ordered the turbowerx(sp?)$300 gadget and received the prototype via fedex last week(the gadget wiull be ready for sale to the market by xmas).

before installing the device jim took his car to AKERS porsche here in seattle to have some odds and ends taken care of and also get the SAI check valve replaced....during akers test drive the f_cking CEL light came on...they reset it and jim picked the car up and drove home...no CEl light...

he drove for another 60 miles and still no light...yesterday he did the emissions - it passed and he registered the car....he was so happy he drank too much.

this morning the CEL light shined bright on his way to work at microsoft.

so i guess jim will be installing the SAI device...

Thanks for sharing this success story! I'm on the turbowerx waiting list for the SAI Diag tool, and plan on installing it as soon as I can get my hands on it.

If he works for the Evil EMPIRE, he shoudl just do a full 3.8l conversion to fix the SAI. I kid.

If you have a AWD car in WA, all they do is plug in the car & check for codes, it's a complete joke!

I've been out of the loop on this device from Turbowerx. Can someone elaborate?

Not yet a complete success story. Now, if that Turbowerx gizmo works, WOW that'll be great. Can't wait to hear more.

OK - I'm curious also. How does the Turbowerx device do the cleanout?

Simple - it doesn't. It just fools your ECU into thinking that the SAI ports are cleaned out. Think of it as backdating to the 1995 emissions system when it didn't check for plugged SAI ports.

I believe the SAI sensors send a different voltage to the DME/OBDII system depending on whether the ports are clear or clogged. This system, if I'm remembering correctly, simply sends the "clear" voltage to the DME continuously. This is great as other CELs will still come on. Good luck all!

I'll get one when they come on the market. Let us know when this happens, and many thanks to Turbowerx!

Would be most interested how this thread ultimately came out. Did Turbowerx do the job? Does it allow all non-CEL codes to trigger the CEL if something else occurs? HOw easy is it to install? Does anyone have theinstallation manual to scan and either post or e-mail, in addition to documtning how this worked on OBDII 993s?
Thanks.
