Question The dark side from my HIDs

My HID lights from Vertex bought 1 year ago is failing… when put them on, the left one fade away in 2 to 5 seconds… if I turn it off and on again the same happens…

Anyone knows what is happening? Will I need a new set?

TIA,

Freddy

You need a new balast.

I have experienced both bulb and ballast problems before. When it was a ballast problem -the bulb just doesn't turn on at all - just dead. The most recent problem was a problem simlar to yours where switching it on and off would result in the bulb switching on intially and then flicking off. Best way to test the bulbs and ballast is to switch the working side bulb over to the non working side and see if your working bulb works on the other ballast. If it works then its the bulb otherwise its the ballast.

Call Charles at Vertex as he will warranty the parts from the group buys. The kit is so so in quality but Vertex seems to step up to the plate to warranty it without any problem.

What is a better quality kit and maybe with slim ballasts?

I agree with your test method, but my recent exeprience with those symptoms was a failed ballast. Rather than one spare, I bought an entire kit.

Terry: Ballasts look nicer than the Vertex ones as they have heat sinks -

Do you mind if I ask what you paid for those as I should get a spare set too.

Thanks

Swap the ballasts over. That will tell you what has failed.

Same happened to me when I first installed my HID, the vendor sent me a new ballast.

Currently http://www.pilothid.com/h1.html $189.99

They also came with a neat mounting bracket that works well in the 993.
