Question: Parking in Gear
Hi,
I usually park in netual with parking brake set. If I park on a hill (rarely), I park in reverse if I face downhill, in first facing uphill. The thought is that the reverse keeps the car from rolling forward (facing downhill), and first keeps it from rolling backwards (facing uphills). No one told me that, just my little brain applying logic (or so I assumed).
In reality, does it matter what gear one leaves it in when parked? Meaning, if I park in reverse (facing uphills), is the car still locked and the gear (in addition to the parking brakes) will stop the car from rolling? Oh, I also point my tires to hit the curb to prevent rolls if I'm parked on a hill.
Thanks for the education, as always.

First or reverse. Don't think it matters too much. I park with it in gear and no parking brake when in
my garage. That way the parking brake won't stick if the car is in a long term storage situation. I always
put it in gear and use the parking brake when out and about. The parking brake is a pretty weak link and I wouldn't put too much trust in it. Always park in gear.

always remember to release the clutch after you release the brake. This way the parking brake is loaded first and the gear is there as a safety measure only without load...

Park w/o handbrake and in neutral in my garage, w/o handbrake on flat in 1st gear, 1st/reverse and handbrake depending on the direction I am facing on the hill with the wheels turned so that if the brakes fail the tyre will hit the curb and will not run downhill.
