Default Instrument light driving me carzy!

Hi guys,

I admit that this is just a cosmetic problem, but it really gets on my nerves...

The warning lights in the Oil Temp/Oil Pressure gauge get partly illuminated when I turn on the headlights.

It is as if light from bulbs for the instrument illumination (back lit) finds its way into the warning lights.

Do you have any suggestions of a fix???

Take care,

Jens

This is the best course of action. Sounds like they are not seated correctly, and lights filtering through.

Pull the instrument module out, then check the individual bulbs (green plastic backing) to make sure they were "srewed" in correctly. Should solve it. See p-car.com for some removal instructions.

Hi guys,

Many thanks for the quick replies.

I have already taken the instrument out, and have verified that all bulbs are tightly fitted.

So, what should I do with the black tape??

The problem is solved! jumper:

After experimenting with black tape, and painting the bulb sockets black, without any results, I decided to probe a bit further inside the gauge.

I realized that the "false" light, which was spilling into the warning lights, was not coming from behind. It was coming from the front, i.e. the face of the gauge.

After taking the gauge apart, I realized that when you press the backside back onto the gauge housing, it will push the connectors on two the gauges inwards.

As you push inwards for the back, the face of the gauge will be pushed slightly outwards, thereby allowing for light from the instrument illumination to flow into the warning lights.

So, the solution is to price off the front glass of the gauge, and to gently push the assembly together by pressing on the back cover and the face of the gauge at the same time.

Take care,

Jens
