Best wishes to our SoCal brothers
My cousin is one of several thousand people being evacuated form various San Diego counties due to the wildfires. The situation seems fairly severe and this may be the last day they see their home.
Knowing that many of our RL brothers are from the SoCal area, I just wanted to chime with best wishes during these challenging times.

I'm right in the middle of it holed up at our home in Solana Beach with my wife and two friends who live a few miles east of us in Rancho Santa Fe and were evacuated earlier. We awoke in the middle of the night with soot and ash throughout our house and have now shut all windows as it's become hard to breath otherwise. Here's a photo from in front of our house as the sun came up. It could get worse before it gets better, very scary indeed. Several of our neighbors have already evacuated.

we moved my wife's Cayman to the "safety" of the coast earlier today, then
packed the subaru and 993 with stuff to take when we drive away if necessary.
whoa, talk about timing.................. as i'm typing, my wife just took a reverse-911-call asking us to evacuate the neighborhood.
later.

Yep, it's really ugly here. The winds are fierce and the sky is just choked with smoke and ash. Everything has an orange hue to it and it doesn't appear that things will get better for at least another day.
We closed our SD office today and there are several folks in that group who are hoping and praying they don't lose their homes.
News is sketchy here in the OC, with word this morning that neighborhoods in my vicinity (Lemon Heights, Cowan Heights) were under voluntary evacuations... it appears though that the worst of the OC fire is more to the south and east toward Irvine.
Godspeed to all who are or may be effected.

Same here. Was only about 5 miles away from the Oakland fire. You cannot believe how depressing it was to be in the area just driving through on the freeway.
