OT: Midsize SUV or Crossover
In the market for a midsize SUV or Crossover. Not me actually but my girlfriend. Selling the beach home in Itajai Brazil and she wants a new car.
Just started my homework and she is not going to go for the a big SUV. Its her car so she can get what she wants but if I dont like it, she parks it a block away!!
We do live in the SLC Valley and we have a 2nd home Park City so AWD/4WD is a must.
Any thoughts on the following?
Acura MDX
Volvo XC90
Ford Edge
Murano

I love my '07 BMW X3 but I haven't put it through it's first winter yet. It drives and handles more like a car. I've got a tranny software issue that I hope to get resolved soon. The late '07's apparently don't have these issues. You might want to look at the Hyundai Sante Fe also. I'm not kidding! It's not a BMW but it's half the price.

I think the new Acura is cool looking.
I think the Volvo is over priced & under powered
Not a ford guy
Murano is due for a face lift.
so of those 4... I'd say the Acura.

Give her your Bronco!
My wife went for the mitsubishi montero. It has the best visibility and tighter turning radius than an accord. Its a larger SUV but certainly does not feel like it. The downside? they stopped importing them in 07. Not a great seller in the US so great deals can be found. Has tiptronic, awd, 4wd and all stability controls etc.
I would not limit yourself to crossovers only. Some of the larger SUVs drive like cars and you might find a greater selection of SUVs to choose from... Now if they only got better gas mileage!

She does like the Bronco!!
The Outback XT is actually one that I really like. The XT is faster than a Boxter (0-60)and a friend of mine calls it the Mountain Porsche. Swears up and down by it. They are probably one of the most common AWD, all purpose vehicles in UT. Its a lifestyle vehicle and if you play in the outdoors, its a good fit. We play in the outdoors.
She mentioned the Honda CRV because she thinks its "cute" A puppy dog is cute, not a car.

I love our Volvo XC90 V8. Living a mile high, you have to get the V8 (315hp) on this platform. We went up to Aspen last weekend and we averaged 24mpg and drove over 400 miles on a tank. Plenty of luxury as well... DVD system for the kids, Nav, and excess safety features expected from a Volvo.
The new '08 hybrid Highlander looks really nice and it comes with a third row.

I'd probably second the Subaru. When shopping for my little brother's car after graduation from college, we were both impressed by how much utility there was in the interior, general build quality, and, above all, the power and driveability. Didn't end up buying it, but then again he didn't end up buying anything. He took the cash...plus he's a brand *****. He was leaning towards an A4.
Upon further research, I was pretty shocked to see it has terrific resale, something that keeps either the lease payments down, or decreases the true cost of ownership in the long run. Certainly something to look at, given your other choices. I also like the RDX, unless she's the babies' mama and genuinely needs the space of the MDX.

The Edge is a HEAVY pig but people seem to really like them.
I have driven the Murano and really like them. Not a ton of room.
Id probably go with the Acura even though I don't really care for the styling.
