Just spotted your thread ......

Honda CRV is a cracking car, ditto the Subaru, however I understand you guys should be getting the new Nissan Qashqai, its like a baby Murano, looked like a nice "cute" car for your wife !.

Upon further research, I was pretty shocked to see it has terrific resale, something that keeps either the lease payments down, or decreases the true cost of ownership in the long run. Certainly something to look at, given your other choices. I also like the RDX, unless she's the babies' mama and genuinely needs the space of the MDX.
+1 on the Suburu. I'm a Toyota Land Cruiser guy myself and have never owned a Suburu but know a few people who have. Far more reliable than any Volvo, BM, etc and pretty good performers too, depending on the model.

I bought a new left over 2005 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT Limited 5sp wagon in Jan '06. Same car as the Outback XT but lower ride height and sans body cladding. I owned it for a year and it was a hoot to drive. Get it past 2500 rpm and hold on - it would take off like a rocket ship. Sometimes, it actually 'felt' faster than my 993. Interior quality was very good, and overall fit and finish was very good as well. It is obvious that Subaru is trying to reach outside the granola crowd and go after folks who might be considering an entry level German car. The Momo steering wheel was nicer than what I have in the 993. Heated seats worked like no other. You could really cook your bacon on a cold day. My only real complaint in the car was the weak airconditioner. It would cycle between blowing cool air and warm humid air on a cyclical rythim. According to the dealer, after a few visits to check it out, it was working as designed. I even experienced it on an Outback loaner. The A/C is a common complaint item on legacygt.com. Which, by the way, is the R'list equivalant for Legacy GTs and Outback XTs. Due to my automobile ADD, I sold it early this year to get back into a BMW, my '98 540. But sometimes I do miss the Scooby. It was nice having two boxers parked in the garage.

Audi All-Road would be my choice

As big inside as many mid-size SUV's

My wifehas a Highlander and it's perfromed flawlessly for the past 50k miles. Just consider that the factory tires are lousy. Put Bridgstone Alenzas on....much better.

My wife has been driving a Honda Pilot EX for just over 2 years; she says it is the best vehicle she has ever driven. Plenty of room to haul stuff and in a pinch you can stuff 8 people in by using the 3rd row. Very easy to drive around town, great on the highway and enough clearance for some off-road use if needed.

I gotta say that I am in the Toyota Camp. I have an '07 4-Runner. It is as capable, if not more so than just about any midsized factory 4x4/offroad vehicle. I have towed my 3500 lb. trailer with ease over Donner Summit (7200') and Mt. Rose (8900') and elsewhere in the Sierra's. As a bonus, it gets 21-22 mpg in mixed driving around town and it has the reliability of a Toyota . . . imagine that!

Acura MDX, Subaru Outback and BMW X3 all seem like good contenders. I recently rented a Hyundai Santa Fe. It was not for me, but perhaps ok for the girlfriend - very good build quality, comfort, features and price, but poor handling.

What about the Lexus RX350 or hybrid RX400h? Seems like this car is very popular with the ladies. I actually just bought one for the misses as our family car. Not a very exciting car to drive (IMHO), but it's Lexus, has most things internally that I need and, well, the wife LOVES it!!

I gotta say, I would have preferred getting the new MDX model, but just didn't happen.

Keep in mind my girlfriend is in college. She's not a poor person by any means but it doesnt make sense driving a $40k-$50k while in college full time and not really working.

She has set budget of $25k which she will most likely pay cash. The vehicle will be a used-2005-2007 model.
