MY02 18" 5 Spokes: where to get?
Where is the best place (reasonable price and quality service) to get a set of MY02 Lightweight 5 spokes?
What is the going rate? without tires?
What size tires are best for a street car?

Picked mine up from 6speedonline(can I say that here?!) from a seller over there. I just made a post saying what I was looking for. I picked them up with some rather bad curb rash for $1k and then did the refinish myself. Mine were without tires and included shipping in that cost. I have 265's on the rear and 225's on the front, but would like to go wider in the back. These tires just came off my old wheels and were remounted on the MY02's

I've only done some cursory looking, but if you want new ones, Sunset can get a set for around $2300, last time I checked a couple of months ago. I've decided to look for some used ones that I can have refinished in a "gun-metal" gray for a lot less.

Just as a reference point, I bought a new set last year (no tires) in perfect condition for $1300 +shipping.
Bought mine from Detroit Wheel and Tire. If you contact them they might be able to source a set for you. Or another wheel shop that does business nationally.. they will contact each other to find them or put together a set.
Otherwise searching Craigslist and eBay (and here!) are your best bets.

If you search for Porsche wheels in 18" size, you'll come up with some of the MY '02 models for sale from a southern California wheel retailer. I called them up and a week later had my wheels at my door, with painted crest center caps, for $1045, delivered. They're exact reproductions of the Porsche wheels, made by MIM in Italy, and they're TUV approved. Mine are flawless and I really can't imagine paying the price for genuine Porsche wheels.

Sure, if you like throwing your money away. It's not like we're talking about wheels that are forged, like Fuchs, where the cast repros are vastly inferior. We're talking about modern garbage cast wheels, and in this case TUV-approved wheels made by MIM, which is a well-known European wheel maker that makes a lot of OEM wheels for the big Euro car manufacturers. I mean, if someone isn't going to be able to sleep at night because his rims don't have a Porsche part number cast into them, then by all means he should get the real deal. Just seems like a lot of money to spend on something that is totally meaningless, IMHO.

Here's a pic of one of the junk aftermarket rims I put on my car. They don't have Porsche part numbers on them, or even one of those little Ralph Lauren polo logos.

Noah, some of the aftermarket junk on ebay is just plain scary. TUV approved wheels do not fall into that category. You said your set cost $1045 new. For that price you got quality wheels, full warranty and you are satisfied. I think you did well.
I'm my case that lack of oem part numbers would in fact keep me up at night. So I would find a used set, put up with some curb rash and take my chances.
I'm of the opinion that neither choice is right or wrong. It just depends on the individual.

This is pretty funny...when I was looking for new wheels for my Targa I targetted the MY02s...but i wanted to make sure there were Porsche original. I looked at craigslist, ebay, 6speedonline, etc. with no luck. I found a few but they were wayyy too much money. I looked for about 6 months.
However I really wanted RUF's....I have loved the look ever since they first came out. And then I stumbled upon a set on 6speedonline...he advertised them for a Boxster but they fit with no spacers on a 993. So I jumped, put my $$$ down and loved the look of them on my car.
Here is the kicker...within 4 days of buying the RUF's I had 3 seperate sets of original factory MY02's offered to me! I was temped to pickup a set for track use but I was out the money, the RUF's drained me dry for the year. So I politely said NO and that was that. I assume they sold them to other parties....
Cheers,
Mike
