Here was my post on the wheel refinish. Piece of cake! Just make sure if you do by curbed rims that they are not bent.

not really a DIY, more of a "hey look what I did" thread

I got a set of MY02 wheels off eBay from Detroit Wheels, used but freshly refinished (OE rims) with no rims shipped to Canada for US$1200.

They're exact reproductions of the Porsche wheels, made by MIM in Italy, and they're TUV approved. Mine are flawless and I really can't imagine paying the price for genuine Porsche wheels.
What do they weigh? That would be a great deal if they weren't 30lbs or more, but I suspect they are...

No, they're something like 26 pounds each, maybe a pound or so less for the fronts...I weighed one of the rears and if I recall correctly it was 26.

IMHO, for street wheels a few extra pounds really doesn't matter; you're not going to feel it in street driving. Everyone would get over a lot of this morning-commute heroism if they did a couple of track days, where you quickly realize that the driving you do on the street doesn't even begin to compare to what you can do with a 911 on the track. Then you won't care if your street wheels are each 3 pounds heavier, 'cause you'll know that it just doesn't matter.

On the contrary... as a track junkie myself, I still appreciate light weight wheels on the street - the difference is noticeable, period. You don't need to be at the limit at your local track to feel the burden of 20 extra pounds of unsprung weight.

That said, 26 for the rears isn't too terrible, better than most aftermarket copies anyway.

Agreed. On an older 911, I wouldn't go, say, from 17-pound Fuchs to 30-pound cast aftermarket wheels. I'm talking about the margins here -- going from 24 pound factory wheels to 26 pound repros, or whatever the weight difference is.

I looked at that site and almost ordered from them but I couldn't find ANY online reviews or anyone who had used them so I stayed away just in case.

I'm awfully tempted although I didn't want black wheels. Anybody have experience with refinished, as opposed to aftermarket ones like Noah, wheels from these guys, Wheel Dynamics?

The Finishline guys are in Holland- which is a couple of hours away.....

Roughly 1k for a complete set of new, factory original 18" or 17" wheels..... what's that about 30% of the price from a dealer???? I should drive the Element out there and buy a set.......

Be sure to check if its really "new". A lot of these vendors like the ones on Ebay that sell OEM wheels sell wheels that have been straighten and or refinished. They often buy their cores from bodyshops as the wheels get replaced if they are scratched or bent in an accident. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with repaired wheels, you just shouldn't pay a premium for wheels that they claim to be new but are not.

I bought a set of wheels from one of the ebay retailers to mount snowtires for my regular car. Three of them were used but original finish, while the 4th wheel was straighten and refinished. In this case, the vendor told me the wheels had been refinished (he didn't mention the straightening), but the price was reasonable.

The place (Finishline) is slightly odd. Answering machine..... and they claim to have 38 warehouses....
"Leave a message and we will call you back" So I left a message...... by sometime tomorrow, I should have some idea if they are real or not......

I wonder if these wheels for $899 at Eurowheels are the same brand as the one's Noah got for $1045 from California? They're both made in Italy and TUV,etc. approved.
