Ok, so I know Steve Weiner is the person to talk to about chips. Most people seam to pay $500 for it. Well Steve sells OTS GIAC chips, & he quoted me $1000 for it. Is this a new chip, & he no longer does the custom stuff?

I know it's only like 12hp, but I'm more interested in getting some midrange torque, & throttle response. More of a under the curve gain vs peak gain.

In my search people were mailed the chips & did the install at home, Steve told me I would have to mail him my ECU.

Sounds like you have a 96'. I have a 95' where I just simply gave Steve the ECU number/code/etc and he sent me the appropriate chip for my car. IIRC it ran about $500 or so. With a 96' I think you have a major undertaking in regards to reflashing or whatever it is they do to 96's. I believe 97-98 is far less problematic than 96's. I only speak with the benefit of a little information which sometimes is a dangerous thing.

Sorry, I should have put this in the first post. It's a 1997 C4S.

My experience with Steve Weiner has been nothing short of terrific. If he says it costs you $1000 its for a good reason, Steve knows Porsches nonpareil. You might be able to get the "same" chip from someone else for $50-$100 less but I can assure you Steve will ensure than not only is it done right, he'll walk you through the process of removing/replacing your ecu as well as give you very worthwhile advice on other questions you might have. I can truly only speak to my situation for a 95' and I do know that 96's are a different than 97-98's. I think with the 96's you have to replace the ecu and with yours it has to be re-flashed or something to that effect. Steve has never steered me wrong, plus he's one of the nicest guys out there, he gets my business.
