The roads south and west of Fredricksburg have some of the best driving in TX.. Lots of lonely, quiet tarmac with no traffic and no patrolmen. The Boxstoberfest runs that area every year. Fredricksburg is a great starting point for trips down toward Leakey,Utopia and Vanderpool. The 2 wheel crowd also spends a bit of time down that way as well. I am always game for a drive in that direction if anyone wants to meet for coffee,, gas,, and a little road time..

I can't believe there are others on this planet who have friends in Dripping Springs. My college roomate/fraternity brother was from there. He & his family ran the "Sports Country" camp, if you've heard of it. Beautiful country...!

I actually am headed to Luckenbach this weekend for this event:
http://www.harvestclassic.org/
I go every year and every year I can't believe how much fun I have riding through the hills on an old bike when it ISN'T 400F out.
Anyone care to come along?
Alan

Not to hijack the thread, but I've contemplated moving out there, that is, somewhere in the Hill Country. (Me, my wife, and son about to turn 3.) We spent a few days in Austin in March this year, and drove around the Hill Country some. Does it get unbearably hot in the summer? Is it cooler in the "hills" vs in Austin? Coming from a place that's 65 deg +/- 2 deg all year, that's a bit of a concern.

Yea, that means it will only be 95 instead of 105. It is seriously hot there after living in the Bay area. Oh yea, and winter is cold compared to the Bay area. I lived in Berkeley for 14 years before I had to move to the east coast for family health reasons. There are few places as nice as the Bay area and yes, I lived in Texas too.
