No Smoking!

Awhile back I misplaced (ok, lost) the cigarette lighter in my car. This is not really a problem for me, since I don't smoke, nor would I allow smoking in the car. Most of the time, the V1 is plugged into this socket (until I can hardwire it, that is), but the rest of the time (esp. at night), I don't like the look of the empty socket, but don't feel like shelling out $50 for a replacement lighter that I won't use.

I've looked online a few times to no avail for a plastic cap that would plug the lighter socket. Bonus points if it has the "no smoking" logo on it.

Has anyone done this or something similar? Any ideas?

Thanks!

- Dave

LAPD, or another Porsche dismantler. Alternatively, Sunset Porsche and get a new one.

You can have mine. Smoking is the last thing I do in my car, as well as keeping all of the original parts. PM me your address.

Try HERE for a no Smoking cigarette lighter plug. It is for a boxster, but only $9.95 It's about 2/3rds of the way down the page.

Excellent! This is exactly what I was looking for. Now the $25k question: "will it fit?" I know the 993 has an extra-wide socket, did they keep this on the 996/Boxster?

And to Joseph and Mark, thanks for your offers! If this plug doesn't work out, I will certainly contact you.:bowdown:

Rennlist rocks!

I have Porsche's Mini rechargable Flash/Map light in the socket. Looks good
there and is useful as well. $20-$30 depending on the source.

I didn't even realize that the 993 was "extra wide", I just assumed that they were all standard. Is it possible that the factory did a similar "No Smoking" package option for the 993?

"Extra wide" or "Euro Socket". If you've plugged in any radar detectors, cell phone chargers, portable hibachis, etc., and they feel loose, that's why.

I found a link on another thread to Escort's site, where they have a Euro adapter:

https://www.escortradar.com/cp/cgi-b...ighter_adapter

For $2.50, it was worth it even if the factory "no smoking" plug fits w/o it, because I can use it for the aforementioned accessories.

After doing a bit of reading, I believe the 996s have the Euro plug as well, so I should be golden. Although the flashlight/map reader is a good idea, I'll have to look at that.

If Dave doesn't need the cig lighter, I'd be up for giving it to someone else, provided they're a member.

Try doing your best 100-0 stop and they'll all come flying out from under the seats.

Because everyone loves a good update...

Thanks again to all those who replied! I especially liked RacyTracy's suggestion. :)

I wound up ordering P/N 996.652.103.00, which includes the plug shown below. Sure enough, the plug is "euro size", which works for our 993s, 996s, etc., but would be too wide for an American or Japanese car. (Insert your own wide/narrow plug joke or double entendre here).

Also, for future reference, escort.com does NOT have any radar detectors for sale. Do not make this mistake at work, my friends... :icon501:

Happy motoring!

- Dave
