Help : problem to start the engine when motor is hot
Hi,
I've a problem to restart the engine after a long ride.
When the motor is hot, if I turn it off, then I doesn't turn on immediately.
Each time I've to wait about 20 minutes, until the cooling fan speed reduces.
I'm sure it's an electrical problem because, in this situation, there is not electricity to the spark plug. When the engine become cold, then the car turn on.
This problem doesn't appear while driving, but only when turning off the car when she's hot.
This appear even if, after a long ride, I wait two minutes before turning off the engine.
Thanks in advance for your help.
PS: my car is a 1997 993 4S, all original.

When hot, does the starter motor turn the engine over? ie. is it not starting because of the starter motor, or some other electrical reason: if the latter, I would begin by replacing the DME relay in the CE panel.

Thanks David and Garth for the reply,
I've changed the DME relay after the first time I've noticed the problem....but without effect.
And the car has wiring harness problem..
!?!

I would start by having a qualified mechanic run a PST2 computer test to see of there are any pending DME OBD2 fault codes IE a faulty Cylinder Head and/or Intake Air Temperature sensor.

Either a worn out starter or battery. As heat causes resistence, so if you have a weak battery there wouldn't be enough cranking AMP to turn the starter. If a starter coil is failing the problem enhanced with heat build up.
Also check the ground connection at the starter.

I had the same problem, I ordered a new DME relay from Pelican, removed the old, installed the new, and problem solved. That's not to say it will solve your problem, but it's cheap, easy, and a good place to "start", and the recommendation came from this board.

I recently read the following in the 964 forum: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ferrerid=33171
Is there also a fuel accumulator on the 993?
Hope this helps...
Cheers
