PRICE: I really want opinions from the board. I really want opinions as I know that some high mileage 993's go into the 20's - but how much are all the mods worth on a real clean high mileage car? Please let me know....

1995 Speed Yellow 993 cab with many many mods (all tasteful & done right)

Since the car has many mods i thought i'd give the executive summary first:

1. Car dynos at 257 rear wheel horsepower!

2. The car weighs 2770 lbs without gas.

3. I've invested over $30k in the car, just the parts list is $20k.

4. The car has never been in a wreck, it is all factory orig. paint. I bought it from the orig. owner.

5. The car is in perfect mechanical condition.

6. MILEAGE is high at 128k. Car is very very clean!!!

I just bought my 95 C4 cab a few months ago. Very clean, 45K miles with RSRs, M030/bilsteins, aerokit 1b, uninstalled brand new recaro seats thrown in, 996 steering wheel, '02 5-spoke wheels, new f1 tires, brand new bhp pads (brand new oem pads thrown in), k40 radar, DasSport rollbar, new cab top, etc. I paid $34,500 (which was above market, but in my mind an absolute steal with $25K - $30K in add-ons). However, it took the PO and me three or four months to find each other. He had a lot of tire-kickers... but all potential buyers balked (joyriders) or turned off by the aerokit. I happened to have fallen in love with it, as each and every option was exactly what I would have done.

I think you'll find a buyer... but it will likely take some time to find someone who wants all that you've put in to your baby and is willing to overlook the mileage. I'd start listing at about $30K and see if you get any nibbles.

Man if that was only a coupe, I'd have to think of snapping that up from you. Great mods, quite the list!

If you really want the absolute, then buy my car remove the conv. top and add the following hardtop. This guy will sell it for $2,000 and i suspect you would loose a significant amount of weight. You can probably get more than the $2k for the conv. top frame, motors, and plastic rear window...

How about it.... it would make an awesome awesome track. besides it has your pipes on it.

As someone actively looking for a 993 cab as a driver (see related post), there's no question mileage kills resale. I got my C4S really cheap w/ 99K, my RSA Really cheap w/ 130K, and the 993RS wannabe REALLY cheap w/ 124K ($110K in receipts!). Sad to say, there aren't that many buyers out there for relatively expensive cars that may end up needing (at retail shop prices) repairs costing 50-100% of the purchase price. And even fewer and further between are those of us who have the working knowledge of the cars, AND the cash to take a flyer on a $20K, $40K, etc. car that may end up needing several thousand in repairs, even at DIY prices.

Ken, i agree that mileage is a killer on price and i think you explained the basis of that. I have to tell you that i had a 964 that i bought with 30k miles on it and sold it with $70k miles. That car needed 3x the work of this one. It goes to show that a well cared for car that has been driven can be better than a low mileage garage queen. Out of curiosity since you bought several high mileage cars - did you find any of them where you needed to pour big $$$ into them? I remember Kim's car with the 3.8! Yellow Zonker is an awesome car! I'm sure you are enjoying it.

How much have I spent collectively? Well, the C4S just turned 112K today (v. 99K at purchase in Sept. '04). I've changed the oil once. The RSA has 136K (v. 130K at purchase in May '04), and it pops out of 4th gear sometimes. I've used it as a backup to the backup to the backup track car, so I've probably changed the oil 3 or 4 times, couple of sets of tires, and 2-3 sets of pads. The ex-Kim car has maybe 500 miles with me since last March, all but 100 or so on the track. Changed the oil once. That car is what all 993's should aspire to! Take it out sometime if/when we cross paths.

I did have to replace the A/C resistor on the C4S and add some refrigerant a couple of weeks ago. Need to get a right fog light too for one that got blasted by a rock or something.

I'm looking for mid-20's on a car. Surprising how there are some nicely maintained, presentable 60-80K milers out there. Just depends who needs cash now v. a few bucks more somewhere down the road.

Boris, you have a special car and it'll take a special buyer to get what the car is truly worth. Someone looking for a high-mile cab is going to value the car in the mid 20s, maybe high 20s, accounting some premium for the mods and documentation. Someone looking for a very well prepared car that has been as fastidiously cared for as yours seems to be will probably pay in the 30s. The question is, how much time you've got?
