I would actually salivate over it if it had 3 pedals (not including the parking brake).

But it doesn't.

Yes - but it's not a Porsche - is it
So true. I had an AMG C55. Smallest of the AMGs but very quick. Nice car with amazing acceleration but numbing to drive. I honestly traded mine in because despite how quick the car is...the driving experience will leave you feeling like it's just another car. Sounds weird but it's true. I had an 84 Carrera that I just sold and my brother had a 997s and currently owns a 94 964 3.6 turbo. I have a 95 993 C2 on the way. All three of these Porsches had something that the Benz couldn't compare to. The feeling of the 911 is one that you don't get in any other vehicle. Doesn't matter how fast the car is....it just feel like nothing else. There is no substitute.

Or show me one non-luxury, lightweight Porsche sportscar from their current line-up? Cayman is kinda close but even that is pretty damn heavy.
(FYI: 997 GT3 RS is not that much under 3300 lbs which is a damn discrase and hundreds of pounds too heavy to be called a lightweight sportscar, or in another words: a RS. And comes with almost all luxury items known to man a lot of them mandatory)
i guess i was speaking in relative terms. the lightest weight benz weighs a third more than a 911. hardly the point though. what i was really getting at is the silly apple to pears comparison.

But you still have the BEST car on the block! And your girl should still get close to 170 if allowed to stretch her legs. Nevertheless, he's a car guy and you're a car guy, and while the MB could never take the place of the 993, it's still an extremely nice car.

True, but those kids can be dangerous when showing off. I still get the odd poser driving up behind me provoking me to race. Tired of waiting behind me they usually go around in a careless manner. An accident just waiting to happen. Slogan: Honda, kills kids fast!

I know I know, just wanted to point out the obvious (today's Porsche's are too friggin' heavy).

IMO beats MB any day though (unless it's the McLaren version...)

Not too many other cool cars on my street. But I park in the doctor's lot at work and you get humbled in a hurry. It's like an arms race when it comes to hot German cars lately. I park next to a guy with an AMG E63 like your neighbors. Damn thing gives me brake envy every morning when I see it. It is a big heavy sedan so I know he needs them but man they look awesome. The latest hardware to show up this week was a brand new Mercedes CL600 Coupe with the bi-turbo 512hp V12. Amazing piece of machinery. What I think is cool is that guys spending a $150K on something like that still want to stop and talk about my old 993. Dollars can't replace the emotion this car still generates in people. Happy for your neighbor. He is living his dream and hopefully he enjoys the heck out of his new ride.

Beautifully said...these cars carry an intangible quality that few others can match, if any!

They are all nice cars and they all have different purposes in peoples lifestyles... I love and respect all nice cars I love to drive my CLS55 and my Range Rover daily than my Pcars. I like them all hot rods w/ superchargers .They are quick and comfy. Regarding 2 pedals, Best in city and traffic any day. But they will never look and have the behind of a 993

No matter how much amg stuff you put there, it will always be a «old guy» sedan. In my book you still have the king title of your neighborhood. 5 doors and a sunroof? give me a break. That car is allergic to track's.
However if you think you need a fast car you should begin to admit that a 993 are becoming museum cars. I will say that the water time has come for you. Why not stop by your neighbor with a brand new turbo, gt3 or gt2?

MBZ AMG = luxury sport sedan
Porsche = sport cars
Lincoln Towncar / Cadillac now thats an old mans car

there is no way a 4 door amg is an old mans car. I am in my mid 30s. I had 4 amg cars and I had no regrets.

Now this AMG you might see in the tracks soon bro.
