Default cruise control not working: suggestions?

On one of the 993s I am checking out, I am told the cruise control is not working.

I know it's not a big deal for in-town driving, but I do drive cross states a lot and it comes in handy in order to avoid right calf and shin cramps.... not to mention avoidance of speeding tickets.

will not stop me from getting the car of course, but before I commit:

1) what is the usual culprit? Is it the "brain," the ecu?

2) I see one for sale on Ebay: does anyone know where this ecu is located?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=280147371359

3) anyone had cruise control worked on? just wondering if I don't DIY/DIM, how much am I out for??

Thanks!

The car I just bought had cc problem, I did a search on this forum (I think I just put in "cruise control") and found a lot of really good information, possibly an easy fix. My car has not arrived yet, but I hope to fix the problem with one of the suggestions, short of replacing the motor.

Could be sticky clutch pedal not returning to full up. Ginger had that when I got her.

I have repaired several actuators with cold solder joint problems like that. Unfortunately the actuator is almost impossible to remove unless you remove the intake runners or drop the engine.

That was the problem I had with Blackhorse. Sent it to Robin for cold solder joints. Thank God I had the motor out at the time

"I have repaired several actuators with cold solder joint problems"

The actuators rarely fail and if they do, they don't fail because of
cold solder joints.

So for the pedla fix, then do I just pull the wooden board and look at or 'for' what?

...I don't think my pedal is sticking. It comes up against a stop of some sort. But my cruise does not work...95' 993. Nothing happens when I move the little stick. On my last 3.2, the cruise would engage but the car would start to slow down very gradually. ON my 993 - nothing happens.

i have cc issues. after spending hours looking for the culprit, it turned out being a bad CC servo. I bought one on ebay, but havent installed it yet. its not cheap...

I am willing to bet money that the original servo failed because of a cold solder.
