I guess I'm just lucky. In 9 years and 43K miles of ownership (62K miles total on car), I've only needed to replace the battery (3 times) and perform regular maintance (tires, oil changes, tune-ups, brakes). I can list on one hand the items which have failed or need replacement (engine/trunk struts, shocks). Admittedly, my steering rack has slowly leaked for about a year, but I wont replace it until it gets worse. And I need to add a can or 2 of freon once a year.
Of course, I've made a number of mods (see my signature), but these are elective one-time expenditures.
The car barely uses 1/2 quart of oil every 5K miles and with the exception of slight wetness between the engine and trans - doesn't leak. In sum, it's been one of the most reliable cars I've ever owned.

When I drive the 993 car, especially on the track, I am pegging my personal joy/fun meter. Few other things in life approximate the thrill of the 993 allowing us to drive them to our personal limits, and for most of us, not the car's limits. On a track weekend, I get 2 to 3 hours of high speed driving, every moment packed with excitement.
With track costs and some minor maintenance, I can easily spend $10,000 to $15,000 a year....why a big Coke habit costs more. That is 8 to 10 weekend as year. A relatively cheap vice I suggest....and the bonus, you will meet new friend, some of which will be friends for life. A guy can't have too many friends...women seem to network better than we do..generally they have lots of friends. So be good to yourself, don't monitor the cost that closely. The friends factor can easily mitigate the costs.

The 3 F rule...
Glad to hear that it has made the rounds...
Since December 1999, the week between Xmas and New Years when I bought the car, I have nothing but great experiences. The car now has 72,000 miles on it. Since 2001, it has been to the track regularly for exercise.
1. Replaced the dual mass with 993 RS clutch and LWF. The dual mass was supposedly in a failure mode...I wanted it to fail so I could replace the dual mass with the RS set up,
2. Rebuilt the LSD 2X, first time under warranty
3. Replaced an air conditioner hose some monkey broke when in the process of changing out the smog valve thing, and one of the chrome lines going to one of the cylinder banks,
4. Did 30K and 60K maintenance
5. Replaced front brake rotors 3 X and rears 1X, lots of brake pads,
6. Replaced wheel bearings 1X
7. Fixed the driver door, the horrible click that requires a repair.
That's it for repairs...pretty incredible for a car that I have put approximately 55K miles on. And as we speak, the car purrs like a kitten: 993 Forever!

I actually don't give a rats *** what it costs to maintain, upgrade or anything else. It's just money and my 993 & I deserve the best.
No matter what I spend it's still so much better than driving a Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Kia, Jeep, Chevrolet, Ford, Fiat, Chrysler, Infiniti, Hyundai, Suburu, Lexus, Volvo, Saab etc;!............you get the point......ZP44

Cheap Fun..... 993 Cup car, low on power. Shop say's we have to build it to RSR specs..... $20K later the car should be a blast to drive. I cannot imagine 360 plus HP. I will have $20K worth of fun the first track day.
You can't take it with you. I want to die when I run out of money!!!
