For your budget I would probably either go for a '95 993 (no OBDII and best per $ imo) or a 2002 996 like this one.

The 996's got significant updates inside and out in '02 and are far better than the earlier ones. A car like the one above is just way more car for the money than any 993. If you haven't driven an '02+ you should just to make sure.

However, there is clearly something magical about the 993's. It'll be far more similar to your SC and feel more like a 911 versus a "sports car."

Thanks for the tip Arnaud.

Hey do you know if Alon drives his 993TT in the winter? I sms'd him but haven't gotten a reply, haven't spoken to him in awhile.

No kidding! I am seeing lots of decent ones in the ATL classifieds with around 50-60K miles for under 18K. I wonder how well they hold up maintenance-wise when they get to higher mileage.

Sure is tempting to pick one up as either a weekend toy or a commuter to soak up miles off the 993.

Palladio,
I would love to hear more about your car. Where you got it, etc. Maybe even like to see it some time. The blues are my favorite.

Donkey. Why don't you sign up here as a member and then I can PM you more info?

In the meantime, I bought my car in Atlanta, and that's where it lives right now. May bring it up to C'ville for a while in the fall to enjoy all these great back roads. And I agree, the blues are awesome. I have Ocean Blue, but also love the others such as Midnight, Iris, and Zenith (someday I'm going to have to find a Zenith Blue TT to add to the stable).

If you can PM me, I'd be happy to meet up some time in C'ville, talk cars, and/or relate the stuff I learned during my 993 search.

Will do. I will sign up but I think I can still get PM's. I have gotten a few from other people.

David Ray,
Why am I the 996 type? and what is that type? the 996 type is generally not referred to in a positive light on this board and others for that matter.
