IMHO, they are a waste of money. What are you trying to accomplish? I say drill out your stock airbox lid like the Motorsound lid or get creative and save big $$. No matter which way you go, don't expect big power gains just from a airbox and/or filter change.

Its okay Pilot that is what I am after is opinions, I currently have the factory sound package installed on my car. to answer our question about what am I trying to accomplish> is jsut more unrestrictive air flow that is all.. I have been around motor for a long time and you gain better power and fuel economy with a less restrictive intake and exhaust it does not really give more HP just helps the engine not struggle as hard to meet it full potental. thanks a bunch for the input Jeff.

Not so with the 993 air cooled engine. Over the years there have been many that tried, ALL unsuccessful. K&N cone filters literally fell apart when installed in the 993 engine bay a few years back...
A 911 engine is not your typical detroit iron. The air flow in conjunction with the stock ECU is optimized already. What any aircooled engine needs is cooler air. Both systems that you linked will draw hot air in abundance and you will loose power. The most effective add on, if you have an RS tail or any other fixed tail, is the RS snorkel, a $10 part that connects to the end of the stock airbox and draws fresh air from below the wing.
If you want more power you need more dollars than a cone filter....

Is this true:

the bigger the holes in the air filter box = the louder the sound?

I have never experimented, but my guess would be only true up to a point... and I believe you would reach that point long before getting to the Fabspeed style airbox lid. Buy a spare airbox lid, run an experiment, and let us know what you find.

Jeff that is my plan at this point is to buy a used lid and modify it like the cup car design and see how it goes, plus either a K&N (lightly oiled) or Amsoil air filter (dry).

A while back I did some runs comparing the stock to the open "cup" airbox, and found that you get a few hp with the cup airbox. It's all top end, though, like above 4500 rpm. So for normal street driving, it wouldn't get you much.

Danny, do you have a part number?

All of these years and I don't recall ever reading about this.

BTW, a 993 GT2 wing with the honkin' air intakes would be a great place to gain a ram effect if plumbed properly.

Snorkel part number is 993.110.360.51 and cost is around $55.

Mark, Exactly what I thought when I read this thread but I am not sure it is that simple. Check out this thread which I am wading through:

If anyone wants an RS snorkel I'll sell you mine for 50% off the new price. Mine's just sitting on a shelf.
