PTFE Slick 50 in Gearbox with ABD?
I have a small transmission noise when I drive the car between 60-90 mph and got the recommendation to change the gearbox oil to mobil PTX75 w -90.
Some one said that you could try to add SLICK 50, a PTFE fluid as well.
Then I remember that I have the the Active Brake Differential in the gearbox.
I phoned a SLICK 50 distributor and he said that it is ok as long as the diff is made by a ceramic material. If the ABD is made from only metal, then the diff can begin to slip with PTFE Slick 50 poured into the gearbox.
Any one has any info or experience on this?
Greatful for any comments,
Best Regards

I don't know if you can get it near you, but I have had good results with Royal Purple Max Gear 75w90 synthetic gear oil in worn or noisy transmissions. I have a fiat with worn out 1st and 2nd gear synchros and the Royal Purple nearly totally hides the problem. Another fellow in my town has a 3.2 with a 915 that was popping out of gear under full-load and the RP solved his problem as well.
I use mobilube SHC 75w90 in everything with healthy transmissions, that and Swepco 15w40.

The ABD is a function of brake application, nothing in the gbx related to ABD other than a LSD, for which I assume you are speaking of. Friction modifyers can alter the function of the LSD. I would stay with Mobil1 synthetics. GM offers a friction modifyer that is used to tone down grabby clutch packs in Limited Slip diffs.
I, personally, wouldnt use Swepco in the G50(64) trans, 1987 and up. Swepco does, however, work very well with the earlier PORSCHE syncro transmissions. My experience with the '87 and up Borg Warner syncro systems seem not to like the Swepco lubricants.

Here's just one link to start you off: http://skepdic.com/slick50.html
I'd love to see scientific evidence from just one truly independent body that advocates additives like Slick 50.

Sorry to have inadvertently thrown out some disinformation.
