Hopefully, as others have said, it might just be a heat shield rattling against the exhaust, etc. It does sound like it's rotational, though

Not to belabor the points at hand, but my justification for having one's own insurance company deal with the issue is to provide service and value for the money they take from you. I agree, in general, with 2ManyCars about dealing directly with the other's agency if the other's agency is accommodating. Sometimes, they are not so willing to shell out the cash without a significant fight. That's when things can get real ugly. Progressive was notorius with me for raising the rates after each accident- granted I live in a no-fault state, but it still is wrong in my opinion. They were also not very aggressive in handling the issues for me.

Regardless, I think Pcar will be okay and it is always interesting to hear what others have experienced when it comes to dealing with insurance agencies and claims!

Not to go too far OT, but I am on my fourth agency in 17 years. First was State Farm- they were great from a customer service standpoint. No issues. But they started increasing their premiums to me. I switched to AllState and had a great run for a number of years. I got married and then a year or two later, my rates start going up! Switched to Progressive and was very happy until they showed their lack of interest when I did have accidents. Jumped to Erie 1.5 years ago. Rates have not moved. Agent is great to work with.... No accidents and no speeding tickets - knock on wood!

Pcar- I hope the issue with the rattling is nothing serious...

From my own experience...A shunt that doesn't look that bad can cause all kinds of problems mechanically. Getting hit in the rear, in a rear engine car, it makes sense that something might have been bent or shifted back there. I would call her ins. co. and get the fact your car is not running correctly since the hit on the record, as they will pay for it. I've been through that process - with success (not with any of my P-cars, thankfully).

Hitting a Porsche should be someone's worst nightmare. Not the time to pull back and be a "nice guy," even if that's your nature.

Before I bought mine, I was looking at an "S" with about 28K miles on it. Normally, this would be a $50K++ car, but it had a miniscule accident on the Carfax, and the collector crowd was shying away. I think the final selling price was in the low $40s. Seller said he was going to approach his ins. co. to try to recover "lost value" of $10K+. I don't know if he was successful, or if anyone would be. I think it's just tough luck. Fortunately, I P-car doesn't have a low-mile S.

If we fast forward 10 more years, the quality of the "restoration" of our cars will be more important than the accident history, unless it's one of the dwindling number of Sloan-level, sub 20K mile museum pieces. But there will be a wide gap in between.

If there is no body damage don't let them blend the paint over the fenders. If you do it may make the car look like it was damaged worse than it was. My 2 cents.

I think you're right - I'd rather keep as much paint original as possible.

That is a shame!! Black is very tough to match on a 95 Porsche. The original Black has a lot of brown/red that really shows up in the late afternoon light. You are going to need a very good shop.

Actually, I remember reading something about this... you're right, the "black" on the older Porsches is actually a very very dark brown. If you look closely in certain light, you can definitely see it. I assume the paint code is the best way to match this? Does anyone know what brand of paint I should request?

I don't recall what argument we were in, but I'm sure you're a communist - thanks for your concern, comrade.

Bummed, p-car. That really does suck! Best of luck to you on both the insurance and, more importantly, on the repair. May your 993 be back in all its glory soon!

murphyslaw,
I haven't any idea what transpired between you two, or what prompted such a response. But man, that was simply distasteful. I do hope you receive better than what you just shelled out.

Neither humorous nor a fair shot. Just kinda sad, really. Makes me glad that I had good parents.

Good Luck, P-Car. It's a PITA, but you'll get through it OK.

Greg,

That really sux... I know the feeling when you have to drive the 993 in rush hour traffic. Good Luck in getting it sorted out. The bumper will be easy but I hope they'll be able to figure out the rattling noise.
