Spring PICS: Before and after detailing (Lots of pics!)
After having my car sitting in the garage for about 6 months (cold Sweden) it was time to take it out for the summer. As a few of you might know I had half a gallon of oil on the garagefloor when I checked on my baby a couple of weeks back . It has now gone through the regular oil change service and it turns out that the engine was leaking through the upper and lower camshaft gaskets. These were replaced and 2000$ later my Pcar is not dripping anymore..
Anyways, Before detailing I gave the car a thorough wash and I mounted the foglites that I bought from Steve Michaelson (CA993twin) a while back (see pic). These originally came off WALDO so I'm quite proud . I also took the time to polish my tips to a better finish. They really looked horrible before. I started with a strong concentrated degreaser before moving on to Autosol (highly recommended). I polished using an old towel and applied the compound repeatedly until I reached a desired finish. Took 20mins per tip and no need to unmount them, piece of cake . I also did my dad's CL500 while I was at it, the finish on thisone was even better, doh.. Btw the torque in his Merc is really something else.. I have a hard time keeping up with the 993, at least on straight roads.. However, when the roads start turning, its bye bye Merc hehe
A friend of mine is in the respraying business, so I can get good deals through him. I had a few chips on my drivers door and on the handle. I also had tiny bits of rust in the rearmost part of the fenders (wheelwells) so I had these areas resprayed as well as the chipped mirrors.. For some reason the steel gray (P61W) did not turn out the way it should so after I took these pictures the mirrors and doorhandles were resprayed after mixing the color again and it was way better. I took a pic of the colors for reference
After washing I started the detailing using my newly bought 3M Clay bar. Worked like a charm. After rinsing off, I used 3M Ultrafine polish and on rough parts I started with fine compound. Finished of with seal wax. Didn't polish the resprayed parts, just wax (e.g drivers door etc.). After detailing I had to take the car to do the 2nd respray (mirrors etc) and the driveway was all gravel so a week after I had like a one inch dust cover on the car . But oh well..
I'm getting the interior detailed by a specialist next week.. Won't do it myself.. Maybe I'll also dye the steeringwheel while I am at it since it has lost some of its colours on the upper parts of the wheel..
I catched a cold yesturday so with fever today I called in sick from work. I managed to snap a few pics this morning of my car seen from my balcony (Central Stockholm). It's a PITA to find a parking space here so I'm lucky I can have my car parked right below my window where I can keep an eye on it.. Its not parked in the street, its a closed area where you need a key to get in which is a must for me because I would never park my car in the street permanently. However its not an indoor parking but what the hell, you can't get it all . So all though I am sick, I still managed to do this writeup I have intended to do for a long time.. Nothing bad that doesn't bring something good with it . Enjoy

Viggo,
What A fabulous detail job on that car. I have always loved Vesuvio. I'm proud that you were able to keep Waldo's memory alive and reuse those foglights. Great job and good post. Feel better!
