Default Oil temp needls pegs

Every now and then, my oil temperature needle pegs to the top. It will eventually return to an accurate reading, bit I'm guessing something is half broken. I'd like to fix it before it's all broken. I gather it's my oil temp sensor/sender but I couldn't find any steps to replace it. I'm sure it's here someplace but I'm not having any luck finding it.

In situations like this with a sticking dashboard gauge the first thing you should try is the simplest and that is remove the defective gauge and clean the pin contacts at the rear with a pencil eraser. If that doesn't fix the problem then work your way backwards to the temperature sensor.

It is located next to the oil pressure sensor at the very rear of the engine.
