Has anyone heard of installing a headunit in the center a/c vent? I want to install one of those flip-out lcd headunits but we all know those won't fit the factory radio location.

Does anyone know if it's definitely impossible? I wonder if Rod Birch can develop a kit...I'm sure plenty of us would be interested, no?

I recall seeing a picture of a flip out unit installed in the regular radio location-the center vent insert was removed and when the screen flipped up, it fit into the recess in the center vent. If I recall correctly, the car belonged to Graham Mitchell. I believe he has since sold the car.

Yeah, I'm familiar with Graham's install. I'd rather not cut the dash and vent.

you could have a phone console fabricated instead and install the screen/head unit there, in addition to a bunch of other goodies...gauges, Bearcat, radar remote, etc. the factory phone consoles are hard to come by but a Rennister had one fabricated and it looked really clean...I'm sure if the price was reasonable you could easily get 10 people in for a group buy.
