No hate or "denile" here, John. Just enjoying a good, old-fashioned rivalry ...all in the best of humor of course. You know, USC v UCLA. Army v Navy. Sharks v Jets (ok, forget that last one ...don't like musicals). I for one love my 996 brethren. Why some of my best friends are 996 owners...
Peace, bro!

Hey John, 996's SUCK!! Ha, just kidding! Actually, I wouldn't have a clue if they suck or not, as I've never driven one. However, you deserve to be given a hard time. ZombiePorsche44 is definitely not a vermin - he's a pretty nice and funny guy and was only telling you what he saw. Of course, his preference is probablly 993's, since that is what he drives, but he also happens to be a PCA instructor here in San Diego and gets to drive all kinds of different Porsches. I suspect he's got a pretty good feel for the different flavors and you're the one that appears to be the defensive one. I understand though - we all love our own cars.

As an aside, I had the opportunity to be a passenger in a 996 GT3 last weekend on the autox course. Gobs of torque and HP on tap were quite thrilling. It sounds silly, but I was really put off by the doors when I shut them. They sounded 'plasticky' and not solid like my 993. This particular car had too many creature comforts for my personal taste as well (but we all have different needs and tastes) I'm really glad I got to go for a ride in it though as I no longer lust after a 996 GT3 like I did before and am happier than ever w/ my 993.

Of course, he DOES have a watercooled Porsche in his screen name. And it only had HALF the 928's motor in it, too.

Not to add more fuel to the fire or coolant to the track. But my last track day someone in my run group with a 99X spued coolant all over the place. (that was slick) Than a friend with a 99X had one of his engine mounts break and the engine was hanging down ready to scrape the ground. He had to trailer it home. So for me, my car ran like the dickens and I drove home no problem. na na na na poo poo.

no offence to the 99X owners.

I was out of town for a few days and did not have internet access so I missed the "Vermin" remark, but I heard all about it from fellow rennlisters at todays local PCA Auto-X. When I got home I was glad to see the author edited it out like a nice boy.........

Funniest thing is, while I was down there today..............(depending on which side of the fence you're on in the 993 vs. 996 arena this could actually be considered hilarious if it wasn't so damn expensive).................... I found out from another student (who I instructed last weekend in his 02' 996) that his engine blew up only 5mi from Qualcomm Stadium on his way home from the Performance Driving School even though it didn't have any radiator problems and only showed a check engine light twice momentarily before quitting permantly.

Poor guy told me he had to wait 3hrs for a tow and now has to buy either a new 3.6L for around 15K! or a 3.8L for 18k!

And I want slant911 & all other 996 owners to know that I'm not saying that a 996 is a piece of **** or seriously, totally, completely inferior to the 993 (no 993's broke down last weekend), I'm just reporting the facts as witnessed by me (and other rennlisters) and reported to me by the owner of the 02'.

ZP44

FYI: both cars are currently being repaired at Black Forest Porsche Repair & Service here in San Diego and if any of you don't believe what I reported, call them and ask 858-292-1192
