Penny rich, Pound foolish?

Sorry to ask r'listers, but just wanted some input:

I'm no wrench, I just paid $950+ for my $30K service. No problem, expense was as expected. My mother on the other hand.....

....I was driving her '01 330xi yesterday and saw that she was ~10K PAST her next scheduled oil change (per sticker in top corner of windshield)! I asked her if that was correct and she said,"I think so" :banghead: Anyway, she said a mechanic put 3 quarts in it a while back URGH! :banghead:

I told her she needs to get this taken care of ASAP! Long-story short, she want's to go down to the local independent gas-station mechanic (imagine stereotypical independent gas station mechanic). Any input on this BMW service? Service is oil/filter/etc. NOT a major service. Should she try to save a few bucks or spend more for a "certified" mechanic?????

Just looking for input. Thanks all!!!

An oil service on a 3 series is dead easy. Find a good BMW specific indy shop (look for former factory trained techs) and go there. There are many around the bay area. It might be worth checking your local dealers as well, as a few offer good oil change deals.

If you are close to Dublin, take it to Edge.

If you are near San Carlos, try San Carlos German Motor Works, the owner Scott is a great guy and very knowledgeable with both BMW and Porsche. He drives a very non stock 993 and is both fair and honest.

Chris, SCGMW just did my 30K service and it's where I'm recommending she take her Bimmer.

If it helps, I send my mother's BMW there for service as well, and if she is happy, I am happy.

I hear that Chris A. And after a 10k mile overage on her oil changes, it looks like I'll be taking a more proactive role in her service schedule!
