Used the space saver spare and it's missing the ...
Hey,
I had a flat on the way to work and had to use the space saver for the first time.
Changed the wheel; ready to attach the mini compressor to inflate the tire and there was no valve in the spare. No tool to take out the old valve in the blown tire either.
I just put the valve stem cap on the space saver spare after I inflated it up.
That seemed to hold fine for the day till I got the tire replaced.
While I was getting my tires changed I picked up a spare valve and valve tool for the space saver just-in-case.
Are all the space saver spares valve-less as motivating feature to get that thing off your car?
?

The guy at American Tire was also amazed. He threw in the valve and valve removing tool because he just couldn't bear the sight of a naked valve stem.

Ah ! That's what the bloddy thing is for. My 993 didn't come with a compressor, so I sourced one second hand. I opened the case and there was a valve insert in there. Wondered what it was for. Now I know

I found there are three things in the compressor box.
an needle adaptor to inflate a ball.
a red plastic adaptor to blow a stream of air
an adaptor to inflate presta valves typically found on bicycles.
None of them were valves.
I guess the previous person added a valve to the mix and removed the rest of the goodies.

FYI I think the inner "valve" you all are referring to is called the core. The "tool" to remove them is simply a valve cap of the style made of metal which has a stem protruding from the top with a notrch cut across it.

Likely someone had used the spare at some point and removed the core to try and get the spare collapsed so it would fit back in the spare tire well.
I got mine squashed down far enough to fit but it wasn't easy. I still need to remove the core and put a strap around it (thanks Andeas for the tip) to get it nice and tight.
Cheers

Same thing happened to me yesterday! No valve in the pristine spare...I had to remove the valve from my flat tire, with a specially cut flathead screwdriver, courtesy of a friend who was kind enough to rescue me (he also brought an aluminum floor jack which saved me from having to use the scissor jack.)

I need to try my 993 spare. I've pumped up the spare tire in my 79SC once in 23 years as a test. Surprisingly it held. Maybe I'll pick a nice spring morning to try my 993 spare. Better to know ahead of time whether it will work.
