Default HWFMR DE Report

Just got this photo of me flying the Turtle flag (of sorts) at TWS in February. This was my first DE event, & I had a great time. I was able to easily keep up with the pack, and probably passed about 2/3 of group, but in true HWFM fashion, I was handily passed by a number of lesser vehicles. No cross-country excursions for me, as I went in with a primary objective of returning my car home in the same shape it was in when it left. Can't wait for the next DE to come around.

Congratulations on your first DE event; this is the beginning of the real slippery slope.
BTW, I have always admired your penguin smackdown; how'd you do that?

Oh it's a very slippery slope. I probably won't do it, but I already have visions of buying an older air-cooled car and turning it into a track machine that I would be less afraid to toss around. My wife just rolls her eyes.

I'm afraid I have no idea how Slappy the Penguin was made. He was given to me, and just seemed like the ideal thing for my sig.

Eye rolls can be a problem, but you really should get a dedicated track car, especailly an aircooled one; that's what I did, and its really nice to have the safety et al of the dedicated car.
THat's what I told my wife (her eyes are still rolling).

Hmm, I like using the safety argument. Roll cage, harness,...

The 997 is just (for me at least) too expensive (and right now too pretty) to be taking any risk with. Till I get a dedicated track car, I'll continue to have a fairly conservative driving approach. Oh well, someone has to bring up the rear.

Hey Mike!! Ain't TWS fun?!?!? I'll be there a week from today, for the LSR/HCR Club race and DE. Will you be there?? I'll be at the registration desk, driving the DE, and just found out, I'll be grid girl (grid assist that is) for the club race. Woohoo!!!

Jeff,

I got passed by a Mazdaspeed 3, and two Boxters, but I did bear down and hold off a Corvette. I'll try to go slower next time, but I'm still not letting in to the Vette.

Adrienne,

TWS is awesome. I love the fact that it has some relief to it. Sadly, I won't be making the Club Race next weekend. We've got an out-of-town visitor coming in then and it just won't work out. I am definitely planning on doing the next LSR DE event coming up in May. They're running the course backwards for that one, so it will be like starting all over for me. I'll have my martini making tools with me for that event. I'm better with a martini shaker than a torque wrench.

Congrats on your first DE!! I have the Spring Carreraq Classic @ Gateway International Raceway on March 31-April 1 (my third DE) and in true HWFM fashion, I've already been practicing my point - by's.
