Default Need opinions on restoring original looks...

I have been going over this in my mind from time to time and I cannot seem to decide myself, so I figured I would do this post and see what you guys think. I have a Vesuvius C2S, which is a quite rare colorcombo 993. The standard factory setup for the Limited edtion C2S is as follows:

1. Factory CupII's with centers painted steelgrey.
2. Amber front and rear indicators.
3. Mirrors, doorhandles and rear split grille painted steelgrey.

My car was ordered with 17" Cups, although I bought it from the previous owner wth 18 turbotwists, which was also an option on this model. My current setup is:

1. 18" Turbo twists
2. Clear front indicators, red tail lights.
3. Mirrors, doorhandles and rear split grille painted steelgrey.

I have posted pictures below for you to get an idea of the differences.. The issue here is: Should I keep the current looks (e.g 18 turbo twists w/ clear indicators / red tail lights combo) or should I restore the factory looks (e.g buy 17" CupII's and paint the centers steel grey as well as restrofit amber indicators/tail lights?

As far as looks as concerned, I think people (Rennlisters and others) would lean towards leaving the car as it is.. The turbo twists really feels as a natural choice on this model.. Enthusiasts may tent towards keeping the original looks of the car (especially since this is a limited edition only available on C2S). I don't know how it would affect resale value.. It probably wouldn't..

The first two pictures are the restored original look (except the second one has clear indicators instead of amber) and the second two are how the car looks right now..The last two are also original looks and info..

I think that the original looks with the proper painted CupII's and the amber lights would slighty increase resale value but then maybe not look as good as it does now? I don't know, can't decide.. Maybe for you guys its obvious. Opinions greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Your call. You can do mods to the car that can be reversed when you decide to sell. If you are showing the car leave it original. If you want an added flare to the car do the mods. IMHO I would do the mods you like that can be reversed at the time of sale to maximize value.

Are you concerned over resale value or just can't decide on which look you like? As Mike said, you could very easily reverse the mods if/when you sell. Personally, I don't care for the Cups, expecially with centers painted. Your clear lights and the twists look great. Maybe find the original parts now while you can (might be difficult 15 years from now) and store them in the attic for future use.

I'm saving the few things that I've changed so it can always go back when the executor of my estate liquidates my assets...

Agree with Jimbo3....keep it the way it is (it looks great) and if you are concerned with maximum resale value later, go ahead and get the factory parts and tuck them away for later!

It looks fine either way. However, if you do revert to original now, I want to be first on the list for the clear markers

Hehe, thanks for the input guys.. I guess my concern was: 1. Does original looks mean higher resale value? and 2. Which setup looks best to you? The problem is (at least here in Sweden) that ppl think the 17" CupII's look cheap on the C2S and they dont understand (and appreciate) the fact that these actually were the original wheels that came with the car. So I'm thinking of keeping things as they are.. And as jimbo3 said, get a set of CupII's and paint them grey..

Keep it as is. Search and acquire parts now for future resale as original. Cups may have been what the car came with from the factory but many, myself included, think they're too small for our cars, especially S cars. 18 OEs look better.

How about painting the 18 technology wheels steel gray and then polishing the lip? A more modern interpretation of the the stock wheels. I have been considering this for my arctic silver car just to get a little contrast in the look.

I think your car looks sweet as is. If you are going to compete in Concours, then you need to "restore" to the original. Otherwise, do what you want, it's your car! That said, you might want to keep the original parts if you ever go to sell - that's what the growing pile of parts in my basement is all about!

The previous owner of your car had a vision of how his C2S should look. As the new owner, you have an opportunity to have the car reflect your vision of a C2S.
For the record, IMHO, the previous owner was right on target. I love the way the car looks.
