Default How Fast Have You Gone In Your 993?

With a top speed of around 170 mph in a NA 993, I'm curious how fast some of you have gone. I know many of our European bretheren often get their cars near this top speed, but how many?

This can be an anonymous poll, if you want. I realize that sometimes we may drive faster than we really should. In fact, we may have been caught up in the moment once or twice and vowed not to drive that fast again in those conditions. With that being said, I hope you are willing to share.

In my case, the SE Michigan area is interesting in that people drive incredibly fast. I grew up in Colorado and have lived in California and Chicago as an adult. None of these places match the average speed of SE Michigan. Typically, the highways around here will have 70-80 mph drivers in the right lane, 75-85 mph drivers in the center lane, and 80-100+ mph drivers in the left lane. When I first moved here, I was amazed. However, now, I find myself cruising with traffic in the left lane in the 993 right there in the 80-100+ range. Too bad we don't have an Autobahn, though.

In Seattle the drivers seem to do about 50 in the left lanes on I-5... come to think of it, they do that in all the lanes. Ahhh Seattle, whose claim to fame is Microsoft and the worst drivers in America. LOL

That is interesting given the advertised top speed with the gear, even with the G50/21 gear box. What were you doing, going down hill with a tail wind?

I've had it up to an indicated 175, but I think the speedometer is a little optomistic. The car is stock except for H&R springs. The car was completely topped out. Before I get flamed, it was a very nice piece of highway (I-10) with absolutely no traffic, good tires, etc.

It felt very solid at high speed, although my previous 944 turbo felt even more solid.... which is surprising, because it was on comparatively high profile 16" tires. The turbo also had more guts at high speed, but that's boost for ya...

just below 280Kph on computer (above 290 on speedometer) ...but downhill on a highway from Luxemburg to Brussels. The highway was empty in front, I jumped on the brakes to pass a truck at a "reasonable speed". I will always wonder what could have been the top reachable speed!

Never had a good place to really get the speed up around Washington State as is is a police state when it comes to traffic. Can hit 110 or a little more on the straight at the local track SIR if I get the corners prior to the strait correct (now it is called Pacific Raceways but I still call it SIR).

Did drive for 3 hours straight in Monana at 95 to 105 which may count for more than a quick blast up to higher speeds. Nothing like the Autobahn though.

TomF:

You are right...the drivers here are bad. When you talk to long time residents, Washington has always been REAL heavy handed when it comes to traffic enforcement. I have a good lawyer for tickets btw!
