Unhappy Sudden, brief loss of electrical power

Strange thing happened to me this AM. Driving along and suddenly the engine cut out for a fraction of a second, the radio and V1 reset and the dash lights came on as if the car had just been started. It did this two more times within a minute.

No CEL resulted.

It felt as if the car had just been switched off momentarity.

Very odd, and disconcerting.

Any ideas?

sounds like a bad ground. i would check your ground strap and make sure it is clean (non-corroded) and perhaps just get a new one. It is possible that you have a short, but a system wide short would probably continue to do really strange thinks.

Have you had your wiring harness recall done?

cheers,
boris

Battery ground strap looks in fine condition and firmly attached. Are there others?

Wiring harness is the newer .15 version.

So the most likely culprit for this sort of symptom is a bad ground somewhere?

I've been thinking--if it was anything engine-related it would throw a code (even OBD-I monitors ignition, right?)

Don't forget the ever-popular DME relay. I had a couple of these before my 964 quit for good.

Were you coming to a stop when this happened?

Had the same problem... 1 week later my alt belt broke..... belt was stretched and was slipping.

Maybe could be the same problem?

hope that helps

I would think it could be something more 'upstream' like the ignition switch. Start the car and wiggle the key around, back and forth etc. Hmmm..
