Excellence Magazine 993 Market Prices
 

Wow! I thought Excellence's market prices were close to slightly below "real world" last year. This year, the February 2007 (out already??) they figure an "excellent" '98 993S at $35,213! Hmmm, where do I find one of those???

Mine is a '96 C2 in "excellent" condition, which they say is worth $33,213. Someone would have to pry the wheel from my cold, lifeless hands before I'd sell it for that. Or, maybe someone wants to trade their low-mileage '98 "S" for my C2 and a couple grand?

At $35,213 for an "Excellent" 98 993S, I will take 25 of them please.

I just bought (11/5/06) a '97 C2 tip, 50K miles, all records since new, from the dealer who sold it new, for $32.6K. A lot depends on location and how long a seller is willing to wait to get his asking price...

Prices certainly took a dip, according to the data, from 2005 to 2006. Looking at the 95 C4, I would say the pricing is right in line for my car. Not excellant but well above average. I would put the value of my car probably right around $30k.

Everyone knows its what the market commands with about anything. . Its like the average 4br, 2bath home in San Jose, CA commanding $600k+. Some people will say BS and thats too much $$$ others will agree its the fair value. Im only using Silicon Valley as an example because I used to live there.

wow..so my near mint condition 97c2s tippy must be only worth 24k or less :crying:

They keep on getting further away from actual pricing each year. I see more rise in most models than fall. The only one they seem to be close on are the 914's.

At least the 993 did not show up in the $20k shootout comparo this month! Whew!

Market price only matters if you sell it or wreck it, neither of which I intend to do (knock on wood). So who cares!! Drive it 'til the wheels fall off!!!

Thankfully (and hopefully), I won't be selling my 993.

I told you those numbers are complete garbage...no idea why that magazine prints them, it only lessens their credibility.

I'd venture to say for every case that you can cite where those numbers are complete garbage, I can cite at least one where they are right on.

Yep, an excellent 1998 C2S is $35K....right.

Sorry but the vast majority of the people on this forum are not going to believe that.

Maybe with the 993's but regarding most other models I have been following it is more like a 5:1 ratio and in those cases it is only dealing with the common variant of the model. They are so far off on the more limited cars and I can say for fact that they are off by as much as 80% on cars like my 94 turbo.

Every car I have seen sell in the price range they consider excellent for most models, might be considered excellent for an average car of its age or mileage but I would consider these cars from from excellent condition.

So I guess it depends on what your definition of excellent is.

Go ahead and try to find that example then. By posting the price you paid for your car, you have only added to the sentiment here that the price in Excellence is way under-valued. Your car is a year older, a tip, and most notably not an S, so yours is valued far less than the given example. By way of comparison, you likely paid $10k too much according to Excellence.

If Pete's '97 Tip is truly in "excellent" condition, fully serviced before purchasing and needed nothing, he probably paid about the going rate as Tips are typically $3K to $5K less than manuals. That's not a slam on Tips, it's just the reality of demand.

Say we add back $4K to his purchase price on the Tip to buy a manual and we're at $36,600, which is within a couple G's of the going rate for low/medium mileage 6-speed in excellent condition.
