I am seriously looking to buy but the only thing I can get excited about with this car is the Grand Prix white. Too many red flags for me.

mkc4s 12-20-2006 05:04 PM

Real Carrera 4S has manual shifter with silver top, but the car for sale has black shifter top.

Man, the price is sweet! Can't you use the serial number to determine whether it's a real S?

amfp 12-20-2006 09:03 PM

Photos look suspect.

Ritter v4.0 12-20-2006 09:13 PM

The price is suspect. Salvage title or accident?

tonytrini 12-20-2006 09:14 PM

I posted it on another thread...looks real to me.

If anyone is SERIOUS, I can take a look at it.

tonytrini 12-20-2006 09:15 PM

actually he was asking 40k about a week or two ago....

I ran a Carfax. It shows an apparent 12,000 mile roll back. Plus it was in an accident in 2001.

$35k for a mild accident car could be ok, but the rollback is not kosher.
Pass.

p.s. how do they determine the rollback?

They track mileage at various points such as State inspections, title transfer, etc. In this case the mileage was lower by 12,000 miles over previous event.

Ritter v4.0 12-20-2006 10:22 PM

I guessed as much. They don't note mileage here at the annual inspection.

Does every State have an annual inspection?

Wilder 12-20-2006 10:59 PM

Mistakes can be easily made when tracking mileage through Carfax. This should be taken up with the owner and have him explain and disprove. I've run into this in the past and I wouldn't turn my back on it that quickly. Great price for an S car.

I understad that disclaimers are almost mandatory these days, but these parts of the "STANDARD DISCLAIMER" would scare me:

. . . The seller shall not be responsible for the correct description, authenticity, genuineness, or . . . No allowance or set aside will be made on account of any incorrectness, imperfection, defect or damage.

The price is very tempting, but I would have the most thorough PPI ever if I was considering buying it.

AOW162435 12-21-2006 10:21 AM

I'm heading out of town for Christmas, but would otherwise give this car a Rennfax....

The photo shot through the passenger door opening is somewhat telling. It looks like the interior was quite dirty, so the seller took an old t-shirt, saturated it with Armor-All and slathered it all over the interior. Of course, he also missed quite a few spots, so it looks like crap.

I'd say a thorough PPI is warranted on this one.
