Do you have a link? The only carrera II wheel I can find is the 17" 10 spoke. Is that the one your referring to?

TJ, your avatar makes me break out in a sweat. A forklift lifting another forklift? Darwin award candidates for sure!

The 17's provide the happy medium and really seem to help launch off the turns....
That's what I meant when I alluded to all else being equal ...differences in rolling diameter will most assuredly affect acceleration. The gist of my post was that a simple difference in 18 vs 17, and say a 35 vs 40 aspect ratio, and a minor diff in wheel weight, in and of themselves will not result in drastic handling diffs on the track, let alone street driving. I'm talking apples to apples, here: same car with a simple wheel swap with identical tires and an aspect ratio to maintain like diameter. Affect ride compliance yes, but lap times?? ...well if you're Shumey or just that darn talented.

Don't forget that 17 inch tires are also cheaper than the 18's. If you're running Hoosiers at the track it can add up quickly.

Glad you like it - I was shocked when I saw it. I have another one where a guy is welding a muffler under a small pickup that is propped-up by a 4x4. Insane.

here's a couple of pics - one with the two C2S cars together - primary differnce is the wheel size (and his is that awful color!) with stock 17 in. wheels vs. 18 in. and then one of mine with the 17 in. kinesis

Not that I ever get tried of showing off the 993....I got the Targe wheels a couple of weeks ago off of the local Craigs List for $500.

I have to disagree. There is a noticeable difference in grip with the 18" HS compared to 17" cups, all else equal, in my experience. I'm not just talking "it feels stiffer," I'm talking more overall grip. More contact patch, less deflection... 17s have too much sidewall flex unless you're using a tire with stiffer sidewall, i.e. R-compounds.

It's possible on slower tracks that the 17s lighter weight and slightly better acceleration would be faster... but on a track like Sebring with fast corners, the 18s are faster.

Ugh. This is the catch-22 I hate. Stiff sidewall = rim protection (mandatory) = great turn-in (good) = heavy (bad) = lousy ride (bad). Soft sidewall is just the opposite. So you can run softer tires in lower sidewalls and get the effect of stiff sidewall taller tires, but you are very susceptible to rim damage from less sidewall height and less resistance to bumps.

Which is why I always end up with the stiffest tires availble with wheels that are somewhat smaller than optimum if handling was the only concern. And I put up with the thumpy ride and effects of too much rotational momentum.
