993 article & secondary air induction CEL
Can someone elaborate on this mention in the Excellence Mag article about the secondary air induction problem in some 993s?
I am running with a P1140 CEL presently (runs fine) but haven't brought in to my mechanic yet to diagnose further. What code would come up for the problem mentioned in Excellence? Could I be having this problem?? Car has 32,000 miles with no apparent engine issues.
Thanks, Paul C

Paul,
The 1440 code is the "improbable load senor" code... not related to the SAI ports issue. 1140 can be caused by a vacuum leak, the cruise control cable misadjusted, or some other oddball reasons. The diagnostics recommend a logic tree to diagnose this... if nothing is obvious, you may want to have a smoke test performed to find any leaks.

Chris,
Yes, thanks for asking. I had the engine harness changed, a few vacuum fittings fixed, and the throttle body seals replaced, but the real culprit was some cracked and badly leaking main turbo hoses. He would have caught that with the damned smoke test but for my insistance that it must be the harness. Oh well, I had a new insulation blanket installed and a new set of plugs, while the engine was lowered, so it wasn't a total waste. My 1040 CEL is finally gone.
The belt-tensioner light is still on and looks like its the instrument control module, as you earlier suggested. While he tries to get the price on that part, I'm considering changing to the RS pulley instead. I can then just pull the bulb, but will have to live with that damned "I" light everytime I start the car. No biggie perhaps, but aggravatng, none-the-less.

Paul,
I'm hoping p1140 is not SAI related, read this thread for more info.

Paul,
I believe the mass air flow sensor measures the air that goes into your engine which is entirely different from the SAI ports. So, that's why according to Porsche's obd manual, the error of P1140 is not at all related to SAI.
