Default something looks wrong here... (help please)

Opened the engine lid yesterday only to find this good sized hole/crack (see pics)

Don't know if this is a common thing to have happen?

Wondering how serious of a problem, and if it's a big deal to fix?

Thanks for helping out the new guy,

Cheers,

-Daniel

I believe the connects to the blower motor(fan) for ac/heat. Easy fix and yes it does need to be replaced. Looks familiar to what I had on my turbo below the I-cooler. If I am wrong someone will correct me.

I had that happen on my 964, and was pleasantly surprised at the low price to fix. No big deal.

I bought my car exactly like this...it did not scare my mechanic during PPI and it was cheap and fast to fix...

It's not for the AC, it's to make sure the fan air is ducted down onto the engine. Since it's air/oil-cooled, better replace it!

You guys are the best, thanks for the responses! Will get it taken care of right away...

(Didn't know Porsche made any parts under $200)

Took no more than 15 min to fixed Nakama's in my garage.

you guys are all wrong - it directs air to keep the flux capacitor cool. You don't want that to overheat!

How would you know??? The flux capacitor only came in the polar silver 993 cars which is what makes them significantly faster than any other color!!

Yes, common, indeed. But yours went kabloooie! Mine simply developed a crack. One strip of 2" gaffer's tape, and mine has been good for about a year now. I guess I'll get to it when I have to disassemble half the engine to replace plugs and wires
