whats this 993 worth
#17
Hello from Calgary.......
Based on what you have said, $48 CAD sounds pretty reasonable to me......I purchased my car in Detroit in May to get what I wanted for a more reasonable price than the Cdn mkt.... '96 C4S, Black on Tan, 27,000 miles at time of purchase.....factory options are sports seats, lightronics, 6 CD Changer, crested rims, hi-fi sound. Paid $51KUS - by the time I got it back to Calgary, all in cost was $66K CAD (don't forget the GST if you bring it in from the U.S.)......definitely have the PPI done at a knowledgeable Porsche shop that you can trust.....I got stung on this one, and have spent $4K since on new front brakes ($1,200 - it was noted in the inspection, but didn't get a quote on replacement until after I had agreed to the deal, my loss), new rear shocks and wheel alignment ($1,400 - car had noticeable vibration that was not picked up on inspection), and two new rear tires ($800 - www.tireseasy.ca - by far the best deal out there) as the tires went from 50% to a blown right rear tire as a result of being out of alignment.....am also on the hunt for a new rear rim as a result of blowing the tire.....existing rim is now slightly bent, and have heard that they are not worth repairing....
You will also want to see if there are good records on oil consumption....the 993 is known to develop a problem with valve guide wear as early as 30,000 miles, but more common on higher mileage car......will not likely be picked up in a PPI, but cars that are starting to show symptoms will use excessive amounts of oil and leave you with a bill for a $6,000 rebuild (should be in the discussion forums somewhere.....I did my homework off of the PCA site)
Send me an email if you have any more questions and I would be happy to help.

Thnks for the advise stampeeder,
the seller tells me this in one of his emails:
"all the regular service has been completed.
btw: 99K kms on a 911 engine is absolutely nothing, especialy a 993 that doesn't leak oil.. That equals only 10K kms per year without any winters."
He claims it doesnt leak oil......I suppose thats a good sign as far as the oil consumption issue you mentioned?
