Turbo suspension on C2S?
Hi all
How can you tell if your C2S has the Turbo suspension? I thought it was standard on these models? Is there an easy way to check?
This might sound really silly, but I was just curious.
The dealer told me it had a motorsound package (mufflers and air intake) when it didn't. I never thought to check, and when you are buying a car from a Porsche dealer, one tends to accept there word that the car has what they say it has.
Cheers

Take a look at p-car.com's suspension FAQ, your springs have both part #'s and color coded paint dots. The C4S came w/ the turbo suspension but the C2S came w/ the standard C2 suspension.

Hasty generalization . . .
Carrera S came with 3 different suspensions in the US and 2 different settings in Europe.
In the US,
normal carrera 2
M033 lowered soft sport
M030 lowered stiff sport
In Europe,
M033
M030
Carrera 4S never came with the Turbo suspension, sorry for being pragmatic . . .
carrera 4S in the US and Europe came with 2 settings.
M033
M030 option WHICH IS NOT TOTALLY TURBO.
As the book says, a suspension is not limited to the strut. ie:
A carrera S or 4S with the M030 option and turbo, all share the same strut.
Whilst M030 Carrera S and 4S and turbo do not share the same Springs nor the same stabilizer bars.
M030 springs are not turbo springs. AND God knows what a spring is to suspension.
So textually, some US Carrera S and 4S came with M030 suspension and not turbo.
Even the tehnical will tell you Carrera 4S and turbo differ in brakes.
They both share the same discs and calipers,
but the brake system is not exactly the same starting with the reservoir
By the way, to tell if your car has the M033 0r M030, check the sticker under the hood,
and or, ask your dealer for msp options on your VIN .
This would show what the car had when it went out of the factory.
And this is facts, not their word . . .
If your Carrera S was delivered in Germany or France, it would have the M033 or M030 installed, and sometimes not mentioned on the sticker under the hood

I may be wrong..but you may also have been mislead about the brakes...the C2S does not have the Turbo brakes unless specifically optioned (I'm not sure if that was possible on the '97 S) or unless it was modified.

Thanks for that info. Very helpfull to say the least.
I am sure one of the option codes related to the MO33 set up. In which case, that's not so bad. The car, as per the pic, doesn't have SUV ride height.
The brakes definatley feel Turbo. They are as good, if not better than those in my previous 965 3.6. They are unbelievable.
The car first delivered in the UK.
The dealer has asked me to send him all the option codes in the handbook so they can check.
Will see what happens.
Thanks

M033...
this set up ain't too bad. You get a lowered ride height but the spring compression is just about the same as stock, 143 Lbs/inch front and 297 Lbs/inch rear. The Big Reds were not optional on the Carrera S in the US. However, pretty much all the other Turbo body stuff could be ordered, such as the tail, the Turbo S side intakes and Turbo S tail. I have the Porsche Techquipment catalog which documents this.
It is my understanding that the US Turbo came with the orange/redish Monroe shocks and struts. These pencil out to be M030 R0W. The front springs are M030 US, the rear springs are the same tension as the US NB springs at about 300 Lbs. inch, but they are 5+mm taller to compensate for the added weight of the Turbo car and its rearward bias.
