Anyone know how many..?
I was wondering is anyone might know how many 96 black/black 993 4S
were imported to the US. I've heard maybe 200? |
Dont know about black/black but here are the numbers of vehicles. I'd say roughly 200 + or - 50 or so.
Here is total car production 993 coupe 14541 993 cab 7730 993 Targa 4583 993 C4 coupe 2884 993 C4 cab 1284 993 S coupe 3714 993 C4S coupe 6948 993 Turbo 5978 993 Turbo S 345 993 GT2 172 993 GT2 EVO 21 993 RS 1014 993 GT1 road version 2 Worldwide total 49216 1994: 14 Carrera coupe 3 Carrera Cab Total = 17 (note: These were probably press cars since there wasn't a 1994 993 in the U.S.) 1995: 3,540 Carrera Coupe 539 Carrera 4 Coupe 3,200 Carrera Cab 458 Carrera 4 Cab Total=7,737 1996 2,109 Carrera Coupe 411 Carrera 4 Coupe 1,091 Carrera 4S Coupe 2,092 Carrera Cab 1,297 Turbo 484 Carrera Targa Total=7,484 1997 1,286 Carrera Coupe 1 Carrera 4 Coupe 759 Carrera S Coupe 937 4S Coupe 1,849 Carrera Cab 612 Turbo 176 Turbo S 567 Carrera Targa Total=6,187 1998 1,292 Carrera Coupe 1,059 Carrera Cab 143 Carrera 4 Cab 122 Carrera Targa Total=2,616 Total 993 models brought into the U.S.= 24,041 (officially) |
I feel the numbers are wrong for 1998 as I own a 1998 carrera 4s and production numbers aren't listed. Just fyi or I might be driving a fiero built up to look like a porsche...hmmm

All the 98 Carrera coupes were S
The factory was working through an overrun of turbo bodies prior to launch the aqua car. I bought my cab late in the 97 model run and told it would be the last. Then someone in PAG purchasing said "Ach du leiber! Ve have lots of da turbo bodiez!" |

Is the 411 number U.S. only or worldwide production? What is your info source? The referencce books I have don't break out the Carrera 4's, they're considered "option packages". :biggulp: |

Here is some information from Patrick Paternie's Redbook...it seems there are various numbers all over the place...
From: Porsche 911 Redbook 1965-1999, ISBN 0-7603-0723-7, Patrick C. Paternie 2000. © Patrick C. Paternie, 2000 All rights reserved. With the exception of quoting brief passages for the purposes of review, no part of this publication may be reproduced without prior written consent from the publisher. Production from 1/94 to 7/94 (model year 1994): Carrera - US/Can: 1453 ROW: 6412, Cabriolet - US/Can: 1224 ROW: 5850, Cup - worldwide: 100. Production from 8/94 to 7/95 (model year 1995): Carrera - US/Can: 4139 ROW: 7018, Cabriolet - US/Can: 3718 ROW: 2878, Turbo worldwide: 78, Cup - worldwide: 110, RS worldwide: 274. Production from 8/95 to 7/96 (model year 1996): Carrera - US/Can: 3671 ROW: 6762, Cabriolet - US/Can: 2152 ROW: 2066, Targa - US/Can: 462 ROW: 1980, Turbo - US/Can: 1357 ROW: 2484, GT2 - worldwide: 202. Production from 8/96 to 7/97 (model year 1997): Carrera - US/Can: 4972 ROW: 5794, Cabriolet - US/Can: 2157 ROW: 1679, Targa - US/Can: 567 ROW: 1276, Turbo - US/Can: 1046 ROW: 972. Production from 8/97 to 7/98 (model year 1998): Carrera - US/Can: 1292 ROW: 780, Cabriolet - US/Can: 1201 ROW: 138, Targa - US/Can: 122 ROW:212, Turbo - worldwide: 739, Cup worldwide: 30, GT2 worldwide: 21. Note: Where I have listed only a worldwide production number, Paternie had no listing for a US/Can number. I dont think that means that 0 units were produced for the US/Can that year, but rather that his number represents a worldwide number with no breakout for the US/Can. |
I would give my "stock jack" to finally get some reliable production numbers for the 993. Either they are clearly wrong, such as the PCNA numbers above, or they don't provide the full breakdown (such as C4 Cabs in 1996).
Oh well, when I go to sell, I'll use the PCNA numbers that say that my car does not exist......it's really "one of a kind".....except for all the other 96 C4 Cabs on this board. ;) |
I am not sure about Paternie. He counts each model beginning with VIN ...0001, while Porsche starts with ....61 in the parts catalogue. Maybe you have to subtract 60 from each model.
Furthermore the MY 94 993 produced for US/CDN are most likely "S"-cars instead of "R"-cars as quoted. I think they build "S"-cars in Model Year 94 (before August 1994) for the US. It is quite confusing. A reliable source for total production figures would be the contemporary annual business report of Porsche AG. Unfortunately I do not have those. Felix |

Thread revival.
Did anyone get to the bottom of whether an actual '98 production build C4S was sold in the USA? As a buyer at the time, I saw the now venerable "parts-bin" '98 C2S's come through (tried to buy one, white with yellow belts at a Bay Area dealer which was sitting there unsold, and was gazumped as soon as I took any interest in it) but never saw an actual '98 VIN for a C4S -- though I know they're claimed to be owned and sometimes offered for sale, just wondering if this can be proven by a '98 model year VIN. sidenote: As someone who used to drive a '94 RS America which was routinely greeted with "those don't exist" comments from "knowledgeable" Porschephiles ... I sympathize with any '98 C4S driver being told much the same. The good natured among those learned folks were overjoyed to find out the nugget of trivia that the RSA was indeed built and sold as a '94 with the (ironically lighter) rear seats instead of the "seat delete" rear box, which was an absurd plywood box with glovebox lids and carpet that weighed a ton, but looked the part. |
I've also got a 1998 C4S...my VIN can prove it!
WP0AA2992WSXXXXXX with the W representing 1998 model year - 10th digit is year of car. Mine was originally sold by dealer on Dec.16th 1997. |
