And don't forget you'll be grasping your satnav...

The quick release could be kinda neat. How are they fixed at present? Je@~s this is sad that we have to think like this. You'll be jacking it up and taking the wheels inside soon... :-(

I once had a company car broken into at Aston Business School. The car was in a secure car park, under a light with a camera pointing at it. The security guys said that cars were always getting broken into and that the scum doing it dust flicked a few Vs at the camera and went about their business!

Yeah, satnav in hand and the cradle as well as everything else, so as not to leave and indications of anything of value being in the car. It was parked under a light and there are two cameras on my square! The police were unsurprisingly helpless to do anything. There is a 964 on the square without mirrors too, and a silver 993 down the road which has been without for weeks now. AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!

Gabi

Very sorry this is really bad, our country is really going to pot!! these days it seems more and more.........if you want it......take it!!! apparently the big thing in london at the moment is stealing Dogs!! (as well as 993 mirrors) In the USA you guys have the benefit of being able to defend your property, in the UK you bash them...........you go to jail!!!
I think the steel cable is a good Idea might go for 4/5mm thick tho'

tryin to think of another type of deterrent...........................

If my flat overlooked the street instead of the garden, I think I'd be all over the second idea. I think cables would just mean that they'd end up tearing the door skin apart. I'm seriously going to think about the quick release idea and see what I can come up with.

Gabi,

My cousin is a CAD engine designer. He designs and gets frabricated various small automotive bits and bobs so let me know if you want me to hook you up with him. This is a problem looking for a solution....

Cheers,

David

You could wire trigger through the mirror that would connect to an aftermarket alarm. It might be a bit clumsy, but they would get one mirror partially disconnected and the alarm would sound.

BTW, in the US, they are stealing the headlight systems out of 996 and Boxsters then fitting them to Hondas and other ricer cars. I'd guess your mirrors are probably mounted to some tricked out Mitsu Evo.

David, it may be an idea, have a word there may be a small market for these in cities, i guess it would only have to be the mirror base that is custom made, the body itself would be fine as it is.

Scott, that is what I may try.

I also fully intend to get the car registration etched into the mirror glass and on the mirror housing and base, either visably or hidden underneath, this may deter them.

I have recieved a pair I bought off eBay and I am fairly sure they were not correctly removed from the previous car! What does that tell you? This makes me so angry!

Yes, I know, but the seller looked legit and I was trying to get a deal. All the breakers yards were out too.

I agree, Won't be buying used car parts off eBay again.

I wonder if a locking cover would be a deterrent?

Also, I really have to wonder how things have gotten to this point where this sort of thing is such a common experience. Truly sad.

Maybe, but then again, it cuts very easy with a blade.
